With a win today against the Yankees, the Phillies would clinch their first road sweep of the season. You can read that sentence and only see the words "first road sweep" and realize it's June, but if you did that you'd be a DOWNER, MAN.
A DOWNER.
Regardless of whether they win today or not, the Phillies have done some amazing, marvelous things over the past two games, and for a fan like me it was nice to see the young'uns in the lineup put things together and do some damage. Yeah, the starting pitching hasn't been great for either team, but the important thing is that the Phillies made the Yankees pay for it.
What will happen today? Let's look at the lineup.
Look at this lineup. Substitute Cameron Rupp (sitting for the day game after the night game) for Carlos Ruiz, and pretty much anyone else for Ryan Howard, and this is the Phillies lineup as it should be. Veteran free, full of youth. Whether they're good or bad, a lineup like that will succeed and fail on its own merits, and not be subject to the expectations of yore.
I like it.
This very well could be Cole Hamels' last start as a Phillie. I hate thinking about that, even now after months of knowing a trade would need to happen, but I know the reality. He'll always be a Phillie in my heart. I love you, Cole Hamels.
