Phillies Minor League Roundup - July 22, 2015

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Today's Probables:

LHV: Sean O'Sullivan
REA: Colin Kleven
CLR: Brandon Leibrandt
LWD: Austin Davis
WIL: Jose Tavares

Lehigh Valley 7, Toledo 4

Jesse Biddle - 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Adam Loewen - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Brian Bogusevic - 3 for 5, R, 2B, K, 2 SB
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3, RBI, BB

Biddle was actually really good through his first 5 innings, but then ran into trouble in the 6th inning where he issued 3 of his 4 walks on the night. Cesar Jimenez was able to come into the game with the bases loaded and two outs to get out of the jam. Aaron Altherr is really forcing the issue for a big league callup. While its a guarantee to happen when rosters expand September 1st, he could go if the Phillies are able to move Revere or Franceour by next Friday.

Bowie 6, Reading 4

Zach Eflin - 4.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 3 K, 2 HR, 3 GB, 4 FB
Tom Windle - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, K, HBP
Edubray Ramos - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4, R
Kelly Dugan - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, BB
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI
Art Charles - 1 for 4, 2 K (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 1
KC Serna - 0 for 3

Avert your eyes children! Zach Eflin struggled in his return from participating for Team USA in the Pan-Am Games the last two weeks. A five-run 5th inning did Eflin in, giving up a homerun, two doubles and a single before being pulled. Tom Windle did no favors to his trade-mate, allowing two inherited runners to score. Windle has been a disaster this season. Kelly Dugan with another multi-hit game. His curious season line improved to .324/.390/.412 in Reading. I know the power hasn't returned, but he really doesn't need to be in Reading anymore. Poor Andrew Knapp entered the game as a pinch-hitter and ended his 17 game hitting streak (20 games including Clearwater).

Clearwater 5, Jupiter 4 (11 innings)

Victor Arano - 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, HBP, 4 GB, 8 FB
Jesen Therrien - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K
Alexis Rivero - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HR
Miguel Nunez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 5, K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, R, 2 2B, K, CS (outfield assist, 3B)
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 5, 2 RBI, K
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 4, BB
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, HR, 3 RBI
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 4, BB
Aaron Brown - 2 for 5, R, 2B

Victor Arano delivers his 5th quality start in his last 6 outings. His ERA was as high as 6.46 entering the month of June and has lowered to 4.34 after this start. The prodigal son Dylan Cozens returned to Clearwater after a long layoff due to injury. His 4th HR of the season in the bottom of the 8th temporarily gave the Threshers a 4-3 lead. Carlos Tocci with his 6th multi-hit game in his last 10 games. It appears he is adjusting to the level at the plate and that can only mean very good things.

Lakewood 4, West Virginia 0

Ranfi Casimiro - 7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, HBP, 11 GB, 3 FB
Joey Denato - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 4, HR, K
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 4 (throwing error)
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, K
Kyle Martin - 0 for 2, R, BB, K, HBP
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 3, K, HBP
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, K
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, R, 3B, RBI, K
Gustavo Martinez - 1 for 2, RBI

Ranfi Casimiro pitched his longest game of the season and arguably his best. It has been a good year for the 6'8 23 year old righty out of the Dominican. Jiandido Tromp's RBI double in the 4th proved to be the only run Casimiro would actually need. Herlis Rodriguez hit his 8th HR of the season, which is one off of the team lead.

Hudson Valley 5, Williamsport 3

Franklyn Kilome - 3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 K, 4 GB, 1 FB
Kenny Koplove - 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K
Andrew Godail - 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 WP
Zachary Coppola - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Mark Laird - 2 for 3, RBI
Josh Tobias - 0 for 3, BB
Jose Pujols - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, K
Brendon Hayden - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Austin Bossart - 1 for 4, 2 K
Dylan Bosheers - 1 for 4, 2B (throwing error)
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3, K

Franklyn Kilome made his return from injury and was "dazzling" according to some reports. He was on an innings limit this time around, but was hitting as 99 mph on the gun (according to Austin Bossart anyway). He was routinely sitting around 95-96 on the night. Hopefully he will be cleared to go a bit further his next start. He left with the no-decision, but the bullpen fell apart pretty quickly. The offense didn't do many other favors, going 2 for 10 with RISP and leaving 5 on base. Jose Pujols broke out of his slump with a 2-hit game, including a double.

GCL Phillies 1, GCL Blue Jays 0 (game suspended after a half-inning, will be completed today as part of a doubleheader)
