Game 83 Open Thread: Phillies at Braves

Which Phillies starter will the team let down next?

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Contrary to popular belief, not all of the Phillies starters are putrid. Adam Morgan was pretty great last night. And tonight's starter, Kevin Correia, has been serviceable. And yet the rest of the Phillies continue to let them down. Why, Phillies? Why no run support? What must the pitchers do to earn your bats?

Step one is probably not being like Jake Diekman. Poor guy is a mess. Pete Mackanin/whoever is actually making the managerial decisions has started sending Jeanmar Gomez into games to clean up whatever messes the other Phillies relievers make. Poor Phillies relievers. They didn't bargain for this starting staff. But did any of us?

Today's Lineups

Cesar Hernandez - 2B Jace Peterson - 2B
Andres Blanco - 1B Cameron Maybin - CF
Maikel Franco - 3B Nick Markakis - RF
Jeff Francoeur - RF Kelly Johnson - 1B
Darin Ruf - LF Juan Uribe - 3B
Freddy Galvis - SS A.J. Pierzynski - C
Odubel Herrera - CF Andrelton Simmons - SS
Cameron Rupp - C Eury Perez - LF
Kevin Correia - RHP Alex Wood - LHP

Well that's a weird lineup. Ben Revere has the day off, so Odubel Herrera is playing center. But instead of being at the top of the order, he's in the spot that Freddy Galvis has been inhabiting. Ryan Howard is also resting today, and instead of either Maikel Franco or Darin Run starting at first base, as both of them have actually started there before, Pete Mackanin has decided to put Andres Blanco there. From what I can tell, Blanco has never started at first. I don't even know anymore.

Maybe the Philadelpha Phillies can pull out a win on the day that Independence was birthed in their (our) fair city. Last time I checked, no independence-y things happened in Atlanta. Suck it Atlanta. Suck it forever.
