Today's Probables:

LHV: David Buchanan
REA: Jerome Williams
CLR: Ricardo Pinto
LWD: Tyler Viza

Rochester 10, Lehigh Valley 8

Anthony Vasquez - 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Chris Leroux - 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB
Nefi Ogando - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Adam Loewen - 0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, HR
Chase d'Arnaud - 4 for 5, 2 R, 3B, RBI, 2 SB (throwing error)
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, 2 K

Both the winning and losing pitcher of this game gave up a combined 9 hits and 8 earned runs in less than two innings. Lehigh Valley took the lead in the top of the 9th with a 4-run inning, when they were trailing 6-4. Adam Loewen came into the bottom of the inning to save the game, but loads the bases on 3 singles and then gives up the no-out walk-off grandslam. Loewen prior to this game hadn't given up a run in his last 10 appearances (16.1 IP, 32 K). Aaron Altherr hit his 3rd HR with the Iron Pigs.

Reading 6, Trenton 4

Ben Lively - 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 2 HBP, 6 GB, 3 FB
Ryan O'Sullivan - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Stephen Shackleford - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
J.P. Crawford - 2 for 5, R, 3B, RBI, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4, K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Brock Stassi - 0 for 2, R, RBI, BB
Harold Martinez - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Brian Pointer - 0 for 4, 2 K

Ben Lively struggles, but still earns himself a victory, his 7th this season. He allowed a season high 4 walks in the game and was the most since he issued 7 walks back in July 2014 with the Cincinnati organization. Crawford hit his 3rd triple of the season (2 levels). Kelly Dugan is in a mini-slump, 0 for 11 in his last 3 games.

Clearwater 3, Brevard County 0 (7 innings, completed early due to rain)

Victor Arano - 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 6 FB
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 3 (outfield assist, 2B)
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 2, BB
Chace Numata - 1 for 3
Willians Astudillo - 0 for 2, R, HBP (passed ball)
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3, R
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K

In Arano's last 4 starts now has gone 24 innings of 16 hit, 1 run, 1 walk ball with 12 strikeouts. Though he may not be blowing batters away, he is turning his season around exponentially. We are seeing more of the pitcher that scouting reports have indicated when he was acquired last season for Roberto Hernandez. Note: I've always been higher on Arano than others. The offense didn't do all that much outside a timely two-RBI double by Walding in the 2nd inning. Tocci was curious banished to the bottom half of the lineup in last night's game.

Lakewood 5, Hagerstown 3

Will Morris - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 5 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Calvin Rayburn - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Matt Hockenberry - 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, K
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 4, R, K
Kyle Martin - 2 for 3, 3 R, 2B, BB
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 3, RBI, BB
Herlis Rodriguez - 3 for 4, R, RBI
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 4, RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, 3 K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4, 2 K
Emmanuel Marrero - 1 for 3, SB (throwing error)

Will Morris has seen a number of injuries and movement across 4 levels with the Phillies minor league system in 2015. This was his 1st start and boy was it really good. Mind you, this was a 22 year old playing borderline age appropriate in a SAL start. Take it however you want from here. Scott Kingery has had a brutal month of July so far going 3 for 24. His 2015 draft-mate, Kyle Martin, however is hitting .362/.388/.617 in 47 at bats with Lakewood. In the arbitrary sample size game, Cord Sandberg is batting .301/.341/.434 in his last 35 games (136 AB) with 2 HR and 3 stolen bases. With the season he is having, Herlis Rodriguez is likely the first corner OF called up to Clearwater when a spot opens on the roster.

Brooklyn 2, Williamsport 1 (10 innings)

Tyler Gilbert - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K, 5 GB, 1 FB
Luke Leftwich - 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 6 GB, 0 FB
Luis Morales - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K, WP
Anthony Sequeira - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, K, HBP (throwing error)
Mark Laird - 0 for 5, 2 K
Venn Biter - 0 for 4 (fielding error)
Jose Pujols - 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, CS
Brendon Hayden - 1 for 4, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, 4 K (2 throwing errors)
Josh Tobias - 1 for 4, R, 3B, K
Jesus Posso - 1 for 4, K, CS
Austin Bossart - 1 for 3, RBI
Dylan Bosheers - 0 for 4, 2 K

2015 6th and 7th round picks Gilbert and Leftwich got to share in the glory of a darn good start. The offense outhit the opposition 5-3 in this game. Sequeira allowed the walkoff run to score off his own throwing error. Jose Pujols had his 8th double of the season and Jan Hernandez had about as bad of a game you can possibly have.

GCL Blue Jays 5, GCL Phillies 4

Sam McWilliams - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, K, 9 GB, 0 FB, 2 HBP
Edgar Garcia - 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, WP
Kevin Walsh - 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, WP
Victor Delgado - 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Juan Luis - 0 for 5 (outfield assist, 2B)
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, R (throwing error)
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 4, R
Luis Encarnacion - 2 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K (fielding error)
Scott Tomassetti - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Jesus Alastre - 0 for 3, K
Luis Espiritu - 0 for 3, RBI, K
Jonathan Arauz - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 2, 3B, K

Sam McWilliams has now gone 11 innings in his first two starts combined, allowing only 5 hits and no runs. And impressive start to 2015 to say the least. Luis Encarnacion remained red hot at the plate with his 4th multi-hit game of the season (10 games). He is batting .385/.390/.692 overall with 3 HR.
