Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 10, 2015

Today's Probables:

LHV: Sean O'Sullivan
REA: Ben Lively
CLR: Ricardo Pinto
LWD: Austin Davis
WIL: Jose Tavares

Clearwater 5, Lakeland 3

Victor Arano - 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K, HBP, 7 GB, 6 FB
Jesen Therrien - 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 WP
Miguel Nunez - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K (throwing error)
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, 3 K
Willians Astudillo - 1 for 3, BB
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB, SB
Aaron Brown - 2 for 4, CS, picked off
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 2, R, BB, K

6 of his last 8 starts for Victor Arano have been quality starts. When healthy this season, he has been extremely effective in limiting any damage and has seen his ERA dip by 2 full runs since early June. He has #3 starter ceiling, but likely won't get there without any sort of out pitch. Rhys Hoskins just keeps on doing his thing, batting his 5th HR with Clearwater. This bring his season line across two levels to .316/.394/.507 with 14 HR (organization best). The 22 year old likely begins 2016 in Reading and could be a fixture at 1B as soon as 2017, if not sooner. Dylan Cozens is still quietly having a nice season, batting .280/.330/.412 in Clearwater with 5 HR and 14 SB.

Lakewood 5, Greensboro 4 (12 innings)

Ranfi Casimiro - 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, HR, WP, 2 HBP, 7 GB, 5 FB
Jairo Munoz - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Calvin Rayburn - 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB
Herlis Rodriguez - 3 for 6, R, 3B, 3 RBI, SB
Scott Kingery - 2 for 6, 2B, RBI, K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 5
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K, SB, HBP
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 5, R, 2 K

Make that 4 quality starts in a row for Casimiro. In those 4 starts (27.1 IP) he has struck out 22 and walked 8. Calvin Rayburn gets the win, despite giving up the go-ahead runs in the top of the 12th. Herlis Rodriguez hit his 4th triple to score two runs and Scott Kingery singled him in for the walkoff win.

Williamsport 3, West Virginia 2 (11 innings)

Franklyn Kilome - 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K, HBP, 6 GB, 0 FB
Sutter McLoughlin - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Zachary Coppola - 1 for 3, 2 BB, 2 SB
Mark Laird - 1 for 4, BB, 2 K, SB
Josh Tobias - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 5, K
Venn Biter - 2 or 5, K, SB
Jan Hernandez - 2 for 5, 2B, HR, 2 K, 2 SB
Jesus Posso - 1 for 4, K
Austin Bossart - 1 for 3, R, 2 K (passed ball)
Dylan Bosheers - 0 for 4, K

Franklyn Kilome was back to his normal self after a couple less than stellar outings. According to his pitching coach, he is still working on his curveball and changeup to use them effectively anywhere in the at-bat. This game looked all but over, but in the bottom of the 9th Jesus Posso was able to lead off the inning with a single. He was replaced by a pinch-runner who eventually came around to score on a fielding error to tie the game. In the bottom of the 11th, Jan Hernandez hit a walkoff HR to lead off the inning. The HR was his 8th of the season, which is one off the league lead.

GCL Phillies 9, GCL Yankees1 7 (10 innings)

Adonis Medina - 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, K, 7 GB, 5 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 2 for 5, R, 3B, 3 RBI, BB
Jonathan Arauz - 2 for 6, R, RBI
Cornelius Randolph - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, BB, K, SB
Tommy Joseph - 2 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 4
Luis Encarnacion - 5 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB
Juan Luis - 1 for 3, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Yunior Reyes - 1 for 2
Lucas Williams - 0 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB, SB (throwing error)
Bryan Martelo - 0 for 3, R, 2 BB, K (fielding error)

Adonis Medina was cruising through this game before hitting the wall in the 5th. That inning included 4 singles, a sac-fly, a balk and all 3 of his runs. Juan Luis and Jonathan Arauz returned to the lineup after being out with injuries. Cornelius Randolph continues to hit in the GCL and likely could do just as well in Williamsport or Lakewood right now. Luis Encarnacion explodes for 5 (!!!!!) hits and steals his first base of the season (and only 2nd in his career). Tommy Joseph keeps hitting his rehab/reclamation project games, including the walkoff 2-run HR to win the game.
