Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 11, 2015

Today's Probables:

LHV: Anthony Vasquez
REA: Joely Rodriguez
CLR: Matt Imhof
LWD: Elneiry Garcia
WIL: Mitch Gueller

Syracuse 4, Lehigh Valley 1

Sean O'Sullivan - 6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K, HBP, 6 GB, 6 FB
Cesar Jimenez - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Dailer Hinojosa - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K, WP
Tyler Henson - 0 for 4, K, HBP
Chase d'Arnaud - 2 for 4
Brian Bogusevic - 1 for 4
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 3, R, 2B, BB
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4

Despite outhitting Syracuse 9-6, the four runs given up by O'Sullivan in the 2nd inning would stand to be the difference. The offense went 1 for 8 with RISP and left 9 on. Aaron Altherr brought his K/BB to 84:47 in 410 at bats across two levels. This is an outstanding improvement over years past.

Reading 11, Harrisburg 8

Ben Lively - 4 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, BB, 6 K, 2 GB, 2 FB
Ethan Martin - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Tom Windle - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER
Nick Williams - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI
Angelo Mora - 1 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, K (fielding error)
Cam Perkins - 2 for 4, 2 R, BB, 2 K (outfield assists, home and 2B)
Brock Stassi - 0 for 2, R, 3 BB, K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Harold Martinez - 2 for 4, R, 3 RBI, K
Brian Pointer - 1 for 5, R, 3B, RBI, 3 K

Ben Lively continues his frustrating season with another uneven effort. The K/BB ratio was outstanding, but he got blasted with the hits instead. His ERA sits at a season high of 4.17, giving up 144 hits in 127.1 innings. All looked lost down 8-3, but the Reading offense then exploded for 8 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the 11-8 lead. Nick Williams hit his 3rd HR and double with Reading to remain red hot. Angelo Mora filled in for a suspended J.P. Crawford, hitting his 2nd dinger of the season. Cam Perkins took the ESL lead in OF assists last night according to Mike Drago (@mldrago). Andrew Knapp collected two more hits and a walk, well below his standards IMO.

Clearwater 4, Lakeland 1

Ricardo Pinto - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, WP, 7 GB, 7 FB
Alberto Tirardo - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Ulises Joaquin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Malquin Canelo - 3 for 5, RBI (throwing error)
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 5, RBI
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, R, BB, K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, 3B, 2 RBI, K
Aaron Brown - 0 for 4, K
Chace Numata - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 3, R, BB, K

Ricardo Pinto improves to 6-2 and lowers his ERA 2.77. In his last two starts he has given up only 8 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and struckout 10 in 13 innings. It is going to be very interesting to see how Pinto fares in 2016 with Reading. Malquin Canelo with his first 3-hit game since July 9th. He is struggling to adjust after his otherworldly performance in Lakewood to begin the season and striking out a lot more. Dylan Cozens delivered a huge two-run triple in the 1st inning that proved to be the difference. It was his 4th triple of the year.

Lakewood 6, Greensboro 1

Austin Davis - 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR, 5 GB, 4 FB
Joey Denato - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 4, HR, BB
Scott Kingery - 3 for 5, R, K, 3 SB
Kyle Martin -2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Damek Tomscha - 3 for 4, R, RBI
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Joel Fisher - 2 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3, RBI

Austin Davis outdueled Marlins 2014 1st round pick Tyler Kolek and pretty decidedly at that. Since becoming a full-time starter, he has fared well in 3 of his 5 starts. He is 22 and is probably pitching a little below his talent. Herlis Rodriguez hit his 10th HR of the season, making him one of the few double-digit HR/SB guys in the system. Scott Kingery stole 3 bases last night, giving him 6 on the season.

Williamsport 5, West Virginia 2

Jose Tavares - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K, 3 GB, 4 FB
Skylar Hunter - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, WP
Feliberto Sanchez - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K
Robert Tasin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Zachary Coppola - 0 for 4, 2 K
Mark Laird - 1 for 4
Josh Tobias - 0 for 4
Jesus Posso - 3 for 4, 3 R, 2B, HR (fielding error)
Venn Biter - 2 for 4, R, 2B, SB
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 2, R, 2B, RBI, BB, SB
Carlos Duran - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Austin Bossart - 1 for 3, 2 RBI (passed ball)
William Cuicas - 1 for 3, K

Jose Tavares had his outpitch going last night striking out a season-high 7 batters. He is 21 years old, but just last year was pitching in the Dominican Summer League. Jesus Posso had a huge game, hitting his 5th HR of the season.

GCL Yankees1 7, GCL Phillies 1

Bailey Falter - 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 3 GB, 3 FB

Zach Morris - 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 K
Jose Antequera - 0 for 4 (throwing error)
Jonathan Arauz - 0 for 4, K
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Tommy Joseph - 1 for 3, BB
Luis Encarnacion - 2 for 4
Juan Luis - 0 for 3, RBI, K
Lucas Williams - 1 for 3, BB
Greg Pickett - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 3, K (throwing error, passed ball)
