Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 12, 2015

Today's Probables:

LHV: Jesse Biddle
REA: Nick Pivetta
CLR: Mark Leiter
WIL: Tyler Gilbert

Syracuse 9, Lehigh Valley 5

Anthony Vasquez - 3.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, WP, 7 GB, 0 FB
Nefi Ogando - 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, K
Colton Murray - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Seth Rosin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Brian Bogusevic - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K (fielding error)
Aaron Altherr - 0 for 4
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 4, RBI
Logan Moore - 3 for 4, R, 2B
KC Serna - 1 for 4, R, 2 K

It's amazing that Anthony Vasquez can get amazing results one week and poop the bed like last night. But, that is the reason why he is a 28 year old journeyman. Colton Murray quietly returned to LHV on July 31 to a shaky appearance, but in his last 3 appearances he has gone 5.2 innings giving up only 2 hits, no walks and striking out 5. He is a guy I thought would be in the big leagues by season's end. He still has a chance to be reliable middle reliever. Bogusevic blasted his 9th HR of the season. Aaron Altherr with a rare game not reaching base and has only done that 6 times since being promoted to LHV (by my count anyway...).

Reading 8, Harrisburg 4

Joely Rodriguez - 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, K, HR, WP, 10 GB, 2 FB
Reinier Roibal - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Edubray Ramos - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Jimmy Cordero - 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 2 K
Nick Williams - 1 for 5, R, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, SB (throwing error)
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4, K
Brock Stassi - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, R
Angelo Mora - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2B
Art Charles - 1 for 1, HR, 2 RBI

Is there any stopping the Reading offense? Joely Rodriguez didn't have to do much, but continued to show off his impressive groundball numbers despite the lack of strikeouts. Andrew Knapp took rest of the 7th day. J.P. Crawford however came back with a fury after a 1-game suspension that involved bumping an ump after arguing strikes last Friday. He hit his 5th HR and stole his 3rd base with Reading.

Clearwater 10, Lakeland 5

Matt Imhof - 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR, 6 GB, 3 FB
Alexis Rivero - 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Ethan Stewart - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K, HBP
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 6, RBI
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, RBI, K
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 4, 2 R, K, HBP
Rhys Hoskins - 4 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Willians Astudillo - 3 for 4, R, BB
Chace Numata - 0 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB

Matt Imhof gets ravaged in what could be considered his worst start his season (his 6/28 start comes close). However, the offense powered through and took control of the game by collecting 8 runs through innings 5 to 7. Rhys Hoskins has been a lot of fun to follow this season and is a legit Top 15 prospect in the system. Reading will be a big jump for him whenever he makes it, though he will likely have to wait until 2016. Willians Astudillo walks in back-to-back games for the first time since last season (June 30 - July 1).

Lakewood 7, Greensboro 2

Elneiry Garcia - 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, WP, HBP, 6 GB, 6 FB
Jason Zgardowski - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Manny Martinez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Scott Harris - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 2 for 3, R, BB
Scott Kingery - 2 for 4, R, RBI
Kyle Martin - 0 for 3, RBI, K
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, K
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K
Joel Fisher - 1 for 4, R, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3, R, RBI

Elneiry Garcia has been interesting. He gives up a lot of hits, a lot of walks and doesn't strike many batters out. He somehow holds a 3.14 ERA (1.35 WHIP for what it's worth). I'd venture to say that needs to improve if he is going to succeed at the higher levels. Anyway, Garcia improved to 7-9 on the season. The offense made most of their opportunities going 4 for 10 with RISP and outhitting the Grasshoppers 8-5.

Williamsport 4, Staten Island 1

Mitch Gueller - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, K, WP, 9 GB, 6 FB
Jacob Waguespack - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Zachary Coppola - 1 for 3, BB, SB, picked off
Andrew Amaro - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Josh Tobias - 1 for 4, RBI, K, SB (throwing error)
Jose Pujols - 1 for 3, HR, BB, K
Venn Biter - 1 for 4, R
Jesus Posso - 1 for 4, RBI
Carlos Duran - 1 for 4, K
Dylan Bosheers - 0 for 4, 2 K
William Cuicas - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B

Jose Pujols hit his first HR of the season!!!!! I know we were all waiting for it. Mitch Gueller improved to 7-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.84. He is doing that with a 1.05 WHIP and holding batters to a .201 average. He has only given up more than 2 earned runs in a start once all season (in 9 starts). Cuicas with the only mult-hit game in the lineup. Coppola stole his 17th base, which is good for 3rd best in the league (8 off the league lead).

GCL Phillies 4, GCL Pirates 2

Carlos Indriago - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 5 FB
Lewis Alezones - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, 3 WP
Nick Fanti - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, K
Ismael Cabrera - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Arquimedes gamboa - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Jose Antequera - 2 for 5, R, K, SB (throwing error)
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 5, R, RBI, SB
Tommy Joseph - 1 for 4, 2B, BB
Edgar Cabral - 2 for 4, R, RBI
Luis Encarnacion - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Lucas Williams - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K, SB
Greg Pickett - 0 for 3, 2 K
Yunior Reyes - 0 for 1, RBI, 2 BB, K, HBP (fielding error)

Carlos Indriago has been exceptional all season, but has been especially good as a starter. In his 3 starts (including yesterday) he has thrown 16 innings while giving up only 6 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and striking out 9. According to Winks, last season he was sitting below 90 on his FB. Hopefully some new reports this season can shed some light on what he is throwing now. The GCL Phillies hold the 2nd best record in the GCL and lead the division with a 28-14 record (1.5 game lead on 2nd place Blue Jays). They have 18 games left to play.
