Scranton/WB 2, Lehigh Valley 1
Anthony Vasquez - 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, HR, 11 GB, 6 FB (throwing error)
Nefi Ogando - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB
Brian Bogusevic - 2 for 4, HR, K
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 3, 2 K, HBP
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 3, BB
Logan Moore - 0 for 4, K
Lehigh Valley lost a key piece to their offense in Aaron Altherr a couple days ago. With Kelly Dugan ice cold, it will be hard for them to win many games from here on out. Heck, Dugan might not even be on the team either in a week and a half. Vasquez picked up the loss, with the difference being a solo shot from Yankees phenom Aaron Judge in the 4th inning. Nefi Ogando was shaky, but did not allow a run. He has not been as dominant since being promoted to AAA.
Reading 12, New Hampshire 6
Zach Eflin - 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, 3 HR, 6 GB, 3 FB
Jimmy Cordero - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, HR
Hoby Milner - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Nick Williams - 3 for 5, 3 R, 2B, K
Angelo Mora - 3 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 3 for 5, 2 R, RBI, SB
Brock Stassi - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB
Destin Hood - 3 for 5, 3 R, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 K
Rene Garcia - 3 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI
Zach Eflin was hurt by the longball yesterday, accounting for all his earned runs. From the looks of it though, the ball certainly must have been carrying pretty well yesterday as there was a combined 6 HR in the game. Two of those came off the bat of Destin Hood, who has played very well since being signed by the Phillies in late July (a move triggered by the injury to Roman Quinn). The Reading offense saw huge contributions from the 1-6 hitters yesterday and bombarded New Hampshire for 17 hits overall. This was Crawford's first 3-hit game since August 6th. Nick Williams remains relentless at the plate, slashing .373/.400/.627 (67 AB) since arriving in the Cole Hamels trade.
Clearwater 6, Dunedin 2
Mark Leiter - 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, 8 GB, 3 FB
Alexis Rivero - 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4, BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, 2 R, BB, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Chace Numata - 2 for 5, R, 2 K
Aaron Brown - 2 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Mark Leiter improved to 5-1 with Clearwater and Alexis Rivero delivered a brilliant performance in long-relief. His 5 strikeouts tied a season-high for the 20 year old righty out of Venezuela. Threshers outhit the Blue Jays 12-6 and were an opportunistic 6 for 16 with RISP. Dylan Cozens is now batting .286/.332/.416, which is relatively impressive for Cozens, who has struggled to hit and get on base in recent seasons. Aaron Brown is another guy who seems to be figuring out how to be more patient at the plate.
Lakewood 6, Delmarva 1
Elneiry Garcia - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, WP, 9 GB, 3 FB
Joey Denato - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 4, R, BB, 3 K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 3, 2 R, K, HBP
Kyle Martin - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, CS, picked off
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 4, RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 3 for 3, RBI, CS, picked off
Joel Fisher - 0 for 4, 3 K
Elneiry Garcia improved to 8-9 and lowered his ERA to a season-best 3.05. 13 of his 20 outings have been quality-starts this season. He is 20 years old and holding his own in A-ball. Herlis Rodriguez's 19 game hitting streak came to an end last night, but the on-base streak remains alive at 20 games. Damek Tomscha delivered a huge 3-run double in the 1st inning that would prove to be the difference. Jiandido Tromp is batting .308 in his last 10 games and is riding a 5-game hitting steak.
State College 5, Williamsport 0
Tyler Gilbert - 4 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Denton Keys - 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 K
Sutter McLoughlin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Zack Coppola - 1 for 4, K, CS
Mark Laird - 0 for 4, 2 K
Josh Tobias - 0 for 3, 2 K
Jesus Posso - 0 for 3, K
Venn Biter - 0 for 3, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, K (fielding error)
Carlos Duran - 2 for 3, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Austin Bossart - 0 for 3, K
William Cuicas - 1 for 3, K, CS
Debateably Tyler Gilbert's worst start of the season as he saw his ERA rise a half run. Though, he could have thrown a 1-run complete game and still would have lost. The Spikes outhit the Crosscutters 12-4 as Williamsport was only able to muster one runner in scoring position all game.
GCL Braves 3, GCL Phillies 2
Bailey Falter - 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 K, HBP, 2 GB, 3 FB
Nick Fanti - 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Horace Stubblefield - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Jose Antequera - 0 for 4
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, K
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 3, BB, CS, picked off
Luis Encarnacion - 1 for 4, RBI
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 4
Juan Luis - 0 for 4, 2 K
Scott Tomassetti - 0 for 3, BB, K
Lucas Williams - 1 for 2, R, BB, CS
Bryan Martelo - 1 for 2, R, BB, K
Cornelius Randolph is awesome, that is all.
