Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 26, 2015

#KilomeDay

Today's Probables:

LHV: GM1 Jesse Biddle, GM2 TBD
REA: Ethan Martin
CLR: Ricardo Pinto
LWD: Shane Watson
WIL: Franklyn Kilome

Buffalo 4, Lehigh Valley 2

Anthony Vasquez - 6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, HR, 8 GB, 7 FB
Nefi Ogando - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Colton Murray - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, HR
Brian Bogusevic - 0 for 1, 3 BB
Kelly Dugan - 0 for 4
Tommy Joseph - 1 for 4, K
Logan Moore - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K

Anthony Vasquez with a quality start despite the loss, his 7th with LHV. Colton Murray broke his 11 scoreless inning streak, giving up a solo shot in the 9th inning. Kelly Dugan is now batting .212/.284/.306 in 85 AAA at bats. A far cry from how he was hitting in AA.

Reading 8, Altoona 6 (10 innings)

Jake Thompson - 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 7 K, WP, 3 GB, 3 FB
Tom Windle - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, K, WP
Jimmy Cordero - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Edubray Ramos - 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, HBP
Reinier Roibal - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Nick Williams - 0 for 3, K
KC Serna - 4 for 5, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI, BB, SB
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 6, R, 2 K, SB
Brock Stassi - 0 for 2, R, RBI, 2 BB, K
Destin Hood - 2 for 4, R, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, BB, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 3, R, BB
Brian Pointer - 1 for 5, K, SB

Jake Thompson was brilliant yet again. Since being acquired, he has gone 32 innings giving up 21 hits, 7 earned runs, 12 walks and striking out 23. Unfortunately, his relief robbed him of his 4th win with Reading. Stephen "Rusty" Shackleford would give up 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game at 6 and send it to extra innings. Angelo Mora would work a pinch-hit walk that would force in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning. Destin Hood would also walk in a run that inning on top of delivering a grandslam in the 7th inning. Andrew Knapp stole his first AA base. Nick Williams exited the game after a collision at 1B. According to the twitterz, he may have gotten hit in the head with the first baseman's glove after an offline throw. Hopefully he is okay...

Lakewood 7, Hagerstown 6

Elneiry Garcia - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Manny Martinez - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Jason Zgardowski - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Joey Denato - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 3, 2 R, BB, K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 2, R, RBI, BB, K (throwing error)
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, R, 3B, 3 RBI
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 3, BB, K (fielding error)
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 4, CS
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, R, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3, 2 K

A very un-Elneiry start last night for the 20 year old lefty. He hadn't given up more than 3 ER in a game since mid-July and it was only the 2nd time since mid-June going less than 6 innings in a game. The bullpen was able to combined for 4 shutout innings as they came back to win the game. Tied 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th, Damek Tomscha hit a solo HR (his 5th this year) to put the BlueClaws ahead. It's been a good season for the 24 year old. Jiandido remains red hot the past few weeks, raising his batting average .45 points since July 1.

Williamsport 8, State College 4

Jose Tavares - 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, WP, 4 GB, 5 FB
Denton Keys - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R (fielding error)
Sutter McLoughlin - 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Zack Coppola - 3 for 5, K, CS
Venn Biter - 0 for 4, K
Josh Tobias - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 2 BB, SB
Jose Pujols - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Brendon Hayden - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 2, R, 2 BB, K
Carlos Duran - 3 for 4, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI
Austin Bossart - 1 for 3, 3B, RBI
William Cuicas - 0 for 3, RBI (throwing error)

If you want your favorite "struggling" prospect to get better, please forward all requests to Matt Winkleman. Jose Pujols hit his 3rd HR in as many games, giving him 4 total on the season. Jose Tavares improved to 7-2, but saw his ERA rise a season-high 3.08. He threw 45 of his 62 pitches for strikes according to milb.com. Josh Tobias remains a man possessed at the plate, batting .317 on the season. His average is only outdone by Brendon Hayden, who recently returned to the lineup, at .319.

GCL Phillies 1, GCL Pirates 0

Bailey Falter - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K, 8 GB, 1 FB
Zach Morris - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Ismael Cabrera - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, R, K
Jonathan Arauz - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 4
Luis Encarnacion - 2 for 3, RBI
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 3
Juan Luis - 0 for 3, K, SB
Lucas Williams - 2 for 3, SB (two throwing errors)
Scott Tomassetti - 0 for 3, K
Greg Pickett - 1 for 3, 2B

Bailey Falter bounced back from two disappointing starts to go a season-high 5 innings. The 2015 5th round pick has had an up and down season, but the 25:3 K/BB ratio is incredibly encouraging. The offense got their only run via a RBI-single in the 6th inning. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays also won today and the GCL Phils are eliminated from playoff contention.
