Today's Probables:
LHV: David Buchanan
REA: Ethan Martin
CLR: TBD
LWD: Will Morris
WIL: Alejandro Arteaga
Pawtucket 6, Lehigh Valley 5
Severino Gonzalez - 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 5 GB, 2 FB
Nefi Ogando - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Brian Bogusevic - 2 for 5, 2 R
Kelly Dugan - 1 for 5, K
Tommy Joseph - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
Logan Moore - 2 for 3, BB, K
In his last two starts, Severino Gonzalez has given up 20 hits and 11 earned runs in 8.1 innings. He has a 5.16 ERA in 15 AAA starts this season. Somehow that is better than his big league numbers. The offense did their part, nearly matching the Sox in hits. Tommy Joseph tied the game in the top of the 8th with a 3-run homer, his 2nd in AAA. The less talked about of the potential backup catchers in the system, Logan Moore has seen some significant improvements at the plate since being promoted to Lehigh Valley. He is slashing .278/.343/.357. There is very little power (see: none) to his game, but he is a terrific defensive catcher and has a chance to see MLB playing time next season.
Binghampton 16, Reading 4
Joely Rodriguez - 2.1 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, WP, 2 GB, 2 FB
Tom Windle - 2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, WP
Jimmy Cordero - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Angelo Mora - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3, RBI, BB (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 2 K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, K
Brian Pointer - 2 for 2, R, 2B
Well, that ended poorly. Joely Rodriguez has been a disaster in his last three starts, giving up 22 hits and 17 earned runs in 11.2 innings pitched. Not featured above, but Hoby Milner gave up another 5 runs. Reading eventually turned to second baseman Brodie Greene to pitch the ninth (and gave up 2 runs himself). In total, Binghampton went 11 for 25 with RISP. Reading had 4 opportunities all game with RISP. Brock Stassi hit his 15th HR and drove in RBIs 89 and 90.
Greensboro 10, Lakewood 6
Shane Watson - 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Calvin Rayburn - 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, HR, WP
Victor Delgado - 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K, HR
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 4, 2 K (outfield assist, 3B)
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB (fielding error)
Scott Kingery - 1 for 3, 2B (fielding error)
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Kyle Martin - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, HR, K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4
Emmanuel Marrero - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K, SB
Make that three consecutive starts in which Watson has pitched 5 innings or less. Unlike the last two, he did not get saddled with the loss in this one. Grullon continued his hot streak at the plate and Cord Sandberg hit his second homer in as many days (his 5th this season). Kyle Martin added two hits, including 4th HR.
West Virginia 6, Williamsport 5 (11 innings)
Franklyn Kilome - 2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, K
Feliberto Sanchez - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K
Sutter McLoughlin - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Jacob Waguespack - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Kenny Koplove - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, K
Zack Coppola - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, 2 K, 2 SB
Venn Biter - 3 for 5, R, 2B, 3B, RBI, K (outfield assist, home)
Josh Tobias - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, BB, 3 K
Brendon Hayden - 0 for 5, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Carlos Duran - 1 for 5, HR, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Austin Bossart - 1 for 4, R, K
William Cuicas - 2 for 4, R, 2B (fielding error)
Ugly, ugly start for Franklyn Kilome. This coming after two pretty solid starts. He had not previously issued more than 3 walks in any of his 10 starts this season. Kenny Koplove gave up the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th. Carlos Duran hit his 2nd HR of the season and is batting .325 in his last 10 games. After a nice stretch of hitting, Jose Pujols is now 0 for his last 16.
