Today's Probables:
LHV: Jake Thompson
REA: Nick Pivetta
CLR: Matt Imhof
LWD: Tyler Gilbert
Rochester 7, Lehigh Valley 6
David Buchanan - 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 2 K, 9 GB, 2 FB
Edward Mujica - 0.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, K
David Lough - 4 for 6, R, RBI
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 5, BB, K
Nick Williams - 1 for 3, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K, SB
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, R, 3 BB, K (throwing error and passed ball)
Brock Stassi - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI
Tommy Joseph - 2 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB
David Buchanan left the game with the team down by one, but the offense would continue to chip away, eventually padding on a couple more runs in the 9th to make it 6-4 going into the bottom of the inning. Edward Mujica steps in and it all unravels. Despite some bad defense (a Knapp throwing error that allowed a runner to score), he still allowed 5 singles to lose the game. This was Mujica's 2nd blown save in as many opportunities. I have a feeling Andrew Bailey might get the next shot. Andrew Knapp draws three walks and has a .444/.615/.778 triple slash to begin the season.
Reading 6, Richmond 4
Ben Lively - 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 9 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Ulises Joaquin - 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K
Tom Windle - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Edubray Ramos - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, HBP
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4, HR, BB
Jorge Alfaro - 2 for 5, R, K, picked off
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 3, BB, K
Aaron Brown - 2 for 3, BB, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K (fielding error)
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 4, R
Ben Lively had a good night. The sole piece from the Marlon Byrd trade is repeating AA (mostly due to overcrowding at AAA) and has looked good so far. He even tacked on two singles at the plate. The Fightin's were down 4-3 going into the bottom of 6th when journeyman Christian Marrero hit a 3-run homer, putting them ahead for good. Edubray Ramos earned his first save of the season. J.P. Crawford blasted his 1st HR of the season.
Charlotte 1, Clearwater 0 (10 innings)
Tom Eshelman - 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 9 GB, 3 FB
Victor Arano - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K
Jairo Munoz - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Scott Kingery - 1 for 5
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, K
Kyle Martin - 0 for 4, 2 K
Zach Green - 1 for 4, 2 K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 3, CS
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 1, K (pinch hitter)
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 3, BB, K
While Eshelman gave up some some walks, he was otherwise brilliant in his 2nd professional start. Sadly, the offense did him no favors at the plate. They were a woeful 0 for 4 with RISP and wound up leaving 7 on base. Carlos Tocci has hit safely in 6 of his 7 games this season (.345 average). Victor Arano worked out of trouble in both of his innings of work (lead-off singles that would reach 2nd).
Hagerstown 8, Lakewood 0
Franklyn Kilome - 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, K, HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Zach Morris - 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 K
Alberto Tirado - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, WP
Zachary Coppola - 0 for 4, K (outfield assist, home)
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, BB
Josh Tobias - 0 for 2, 2 BB, CS
Samuel Hiciano - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3
Austin Bossart - 0 for 2, HBP
Brendon Hayden - 1 for 3, K, SB (fielding error)
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 3, 2 K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3
This contest probably will hold the title of worst game of the season for awhile. Franklyn Kilome was not sharp and the offense combined for just two hits and 3 walks. This Hagerstown team uniquely features 3 sons of famous ballplayers: Ryan Ripken (Cal Ripken Jr.), Cody Dent (Bucky Dent) and Mariano Rivera (Mariano Rivera). It also features super prospect Victor Robles, who went 1 for 4 in the game with two runs scored. Let's try and forget about this one, right? Okay good.
