Phillies Minor League Roundup - April 19, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: GM1 Jake Thompson, GM2 Reinier Roibal
REA: Ricardo Pinto
CLR: Matt Imhof
LWD: Tyler Gilbert

Syracuse 3, Lehigh Valley 2

David Buchanan - 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 11 GB, 4 FB (fielding error)
Colton Murray - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 K
Andrew Bailey - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 5, K (fielding error)
Nick WIlliams - 2 for 5, R
Brock Stassi - 1 for 5, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 0, BB (pinch hitter)
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 1, K (pinch hitter)

David Buchanan with the quality start and the loss. The offense behind him went a combined 1 for 12 with RISP and left 12 on base. This was just Nick Williams 2nd multi-hit game this season (10 G). When the offensive anchors so far this season are Taylor Featherson and Ryan Jackson, you know it isn't going to be pretty. The bullpen was rather spectacular behind Buchanan, with Colton Murray nearly pitching 2 perfect innings and Andrew Bailey racking up 2 strikeouts in his inning of work.

Reading 5, Richmond 4

Nick Pivetta - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 8 GB, 1 FB
Tom Windle - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB
Severino Gonzalez - 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K
Yacksel Rios - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Edubray Ramos - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Roman Quinn - 2 for 5, R, 2 RBI, 2 K, SB
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 1, 2 R, RBI, 4 BB, SB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 5, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, 3 K, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K (fielding error)
Aaron Brown - 0 for 3, R, K, HBP
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 3, BB

While perhaps not as spectacular as his last outing, Nick Pivetta was once again very good while on the mound. This is a trend we would all love to see continue. Pivetta was the lone piece that came back in the Papelbon trade last season. Of course, getting rid of Paps was a gift in and of itself, but Pivetta becoming anything would be oh so sweet. As noted above, J.P. Crawford came to the plate 5 times last night and walked in 4 of them, setting a new career high. He now has 11 walks to 5 strikeouts this season. In AA ball across two seasons, he has 60 walks to 50 strikeouts. We should only have to resign ourselves to a few more months of Freddy Galvis. Reading won on a Rhys Hoskins sacrifice fly in the top of the 9th that scored...J.P. Crawford.

Clearwater 4, Daytona 1

Tom Eshelman - 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 9 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Jesen Therrien - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K
Scott Kingery - 2 for 3, R, 2 BB, K, SB
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 3, BB
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4, K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, 3 K (throwing error)
Zach Green - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, 2 K
Chace Numata - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 3, BB
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 3, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 1, RBI, SB

Tom Eshelman was pretty good last night. Overall this season he has now pitched to the tune of: 19 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 17 K. He is holding his opponents to a .109 batting average. The 21 righty (acquired in the Ken Giles trade) is very likely not long for Clearwater, but with the logjam at the upper levels, he could spend a couple months in Florida until everything sorts itself out. Zach Green provided some offense with his 3rd HR of the season. Scott Kingery is playing extremely well. He has hit safely in 10 of his first 12 games. His steal last night was his 4th.

Hagerstown 12, Lakewood 6

Franklyn Kilome - 3 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HBP, 4 GB, 1 FB
Alejandro Arteaga - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, HBP, 6 GB, 0 FB
Kenny Koplove - 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB
Zachary Coppola - 1 for 5, R, RBI, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 4, K
Cornelius Randolph - 4 for 5, HR, 3 RBI
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 5
Jose Pujols - 1 for 5, R, K
Brendon Hayden - 3 for 5, R, 2B (fielding error)
Austin Bossart - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K (passed ball)
Jan Hernandez - 2 for 4, R, 3B, RBI, K
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3, R, RBI

Well guys, Franklyn Kilome is 0-3 with an ERA of 15.83. He just hasn't looked good. The highly rated prospect just continues to struggle and it gives us all the sadz. He's faced Hagerstown in 2 of his 3 starts (the last two specifically) and they have just teed off on him. Lets give him some more time before the discussion about any sort of demotion to Williamsport (when their season begins of course). Cornelius Randolph with his first multi-hit game and HR of the young season. Cross your fingers that Yukon starts to turn it on from here on out.
