Today's Probables:
LHV: Adam Morgan
CLR: Ranfi Casimiro
LWD: Shane Watson
Lehigh Valley 3, Syracuse 2 (GM1 of doubleheader, 7 innings)
Jake Thompson - 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, WP, 6 GB, 5 FB
Edward Mujica - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Darnell Sweeney - 1 for 3, R, K
Nick Williams - 0 for 3, K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, R, RBI
Brock Stassi - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI
Jake Thompson wasn't a trainwreck this time out, but he also wasn't dominant either. Most of the damage allowed came in the bottom of the third where he gave up both runs on two singles, a walk and a sac-fly. The Lehigh Valley offense scored all three of their runs in the top of the 4th. Edward Mujica recorded his 3rd save of the season. He now has 3 straight appearances of giving up no runs. Look out Brett Oberholtzer. /sarcasm
Lehigh Valley 5, Syracuse 4 (GM2 of doubleheader, 7 innings, makeup of 4/10 ppd)
Reinier Roibal - 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Bobby LaFromboise - 1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Gregory Infante - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Darnell Sweeney - 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
Cam Perkins - 2 for 4, RBI, K
Tommy Joseph - 3 for 4, 2 2B, RBI, K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 1, R (pinch hitter)
Reinier Roibal started the bullpen game for the Pigs and was bad. In 7.1 IP this season he has given up 13 hits and 7 earned runs. Things were looking pretty bleak entering the top of the 7th down 4-1. Ryan Jackson and Brock Stassi would both reach base with no outs to allow Darnell Sweeney to mash a 3-run homer to tie the game. This was Sweeney's 2nd HR of the season. Taylor Featherston reached base on a double in the following at-bat. Two strikeouts later, Tommy Joseph delivered a ground-rule double to LF to put the Iron Pigs ahead. Luis Garcia, despite allowing a 1-out single and walk, converted his 1st save of the season.
Richmond 3, Reading 2 (11 innings)
Ricardo Pinto - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 7 GB, 5 FB (throwing error)
Joely Rodriguez - 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Yacksel Rios - 0.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Jeremy Bleich - 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Tom Windle - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K, HR
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, CS, picked off
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 5, 3 K, SB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Jake Fox - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, 2 K
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 4 (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 1, K (pinch hitter)
Ricardo Pinto puts that ugly Friday start last week behind him and throws a gem. He didn't receive the greatest defense in the game (from what I saw). His lone unearned run came in the bottom of the 2nd. Reading would erase the deficit via a Jake Fox 2-run blast in the 4th. Richmond later tied the game in the bottom of the 8th where Rios would walk in the tying run after a disaster of a performance from Joely Rodriguez. The game would go to extras where Tom Windle allows a walk-off HR in the 11th. Despite 7 hits, the Reading offense struck out 12 times and were 1 for 2 with RISP. J.P. Crawford, after a 4 walk day, struck out three times and picked up his 3rd stolen base.
Clearwater 4, Daytona 2
Matt Imhof - 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 5 GB, 6 FB
Matt Hockenberry - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, K
Miguel Nunez - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K, HR
Scott Kingery - 2 for 4, 2 R, 3B
Cord Sandberg - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, SB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, R, 3B
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, RBI, HBP
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Zach Green - 0 for 3, HBP
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 4, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 0 for 3, K
Matt Imhof had a perfect game before a walk in the 5th (which would be erased by a doubleplay) and a no-hitter going into 6th before being broken up by a leadoff double. I'm not high on Matt Imhof as some others are, but this was a very nice start and hopefully something he can build on. Scott Kingery and Cord Sandberg have been quietly very good in the early stages of the season. Sandberg has 3 multi-hit games in a row and is batting .326/.388/.372 in 43 at-bats. The power isn't there, but if he keeps hitting the way he is, it won't really matter.
Hagerstown 9, Lakewood 1
Tyler Gilbert - 4 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, BB, 2 K, 2 HR, 5 GB, 3 FB
Jose Tavares - 3 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, HBP, WP
Jacob Waguespack - 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, BB, K
Josh Tobias - 1 for 5, 2 K
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 4, R
Wilson Garcia - 2 for 4, RBI
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4
Samuel Hiciano - 0 for 3, BB
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, K
Joel Fisher - 0 for 3, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 4, K
Lakewood falls to 2-12 after this shellacking. Despite 7 hits, the BlueClaws offense was 1 for 6 with RISP and left 10 on base. Cornelius Randolph is really feeling it at the plate now. In his last five games he is batting .444/.545/.722 (22 plate appearances) with 2 doubles, a homerun, 3 walks and three strikeouts. Tyler Gilbert was ripped even more apart and saw his ERA/WHIP rise to 8.56/1.68 in 13.2 IP.
