Today's Probables:
LHV: Mark Appel
REA: Nick Pivetta
CLR: Tom Eshelman
Columbus 7, Lehigh Valley 1
Jake Thompson - 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 7 GB, 4 FB
Severino Gonzalez - 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, HR, WP
Luis Garcia - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 4
Nick Williams - 2 for 3, BB (outfield assist, home)
Tommy Joseph - 0 for 4 (fielding error)
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, 2 K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3
Jake Thompson once again struggled, a common theme to his start of the season. He was even bailed out of a run in the bottom of the 3rd when Nick Williams threw out a man at home plate to end the inning. A costly Tommy Joseph error lead to Thompson loading the bases and then giving up a grandslam. The offense didn't help as they went 0-3 with RISP and 4 on base. Their lone run came via a solo shot from Taylor Featherston in the 1st inning. Nick Williams improved his season line to .283/.308/.404.
Reading 9, Binghamton 0
Ben Lively - 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, 4 GB, 8 FB
Michael Mariot - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB
Mark Leiter - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, picked off
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, 2 R, HR, BB, CS (outfield assist, home)
Jesmuel Valentin - 2 for 5, 2 R, K
Aaron Brown - 2 for 5, R, 2B, K
Harold Martinez - 4 for 4, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI (fielding error)
Logan Moore - 3 for 4, RBI, K
Ben Lively shutout the opponent for the 3rd time this season (he has 7 starts in total). The strikeouts are curiously down over the last few starts and last night saw his GB/FB ratio balloon toward the unfavorable side. Regardless, Ben Lively holds a 1.80 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 34 strikeouts in 40 innings. He in an injury/callup away from being able to prove himself at the next level. The offense went completely bonkers behind him, collecting 17 hits and 2 walks to overwhelm the Mets pitching. Dylan Cozens remains red hot, hitting his 8th HR of the season (just one off the league-lead). Harold Martinez is demonstrating that he should probably be in AAA and Logan Moore reminds us he is still around. Reading was able to do this with Alfaro and Quinn on the bench...which is scary.
Clearwater 4, Dunedin 3 (13 innings)
Will Morris - 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 7 FB
Victor Arano - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, HR
Joely Rodriguez - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Jesen Therrien - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, HBP
Alexis Rivero - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, 3 R, 3 BB, K, 2 SB
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 5, BB, 2 K, HBP
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, BB
Kyle Martin - 1 for 6, RBI, K
Mitch Walding - 2 for 6, 2 RBI, BB, 3 K (two fielding errors)
Chace Numata - 1 for 6, K
Gabriel Lino - 2 for 4, 2B, BB, 2 K, HBP
Derek Campbell - 1 for 6, 2 K
Samuel Hiciano - 0 for 3, 3 BB, K (outfield assist, home)
Will Morris had pitched a good game, but left the game as the pitcher of record in the 6th. Things were looking down heading into the bottom of the 9th down 3-1, but Canelo opened the game by getting to second on a throwing error. Carlos Tocci would double him in to bring the deficit to just one run. Two batters later Mitch Walding singles Tocci home to tie the game. Threshers would end the game in the bottom of the 13th after Canelo once again leads off the inning by getting on base (a single) and Mitch Walding knocks him in with the bases loaded and one out. The win gave Clearwater a two-game lead in the North Division.

His HR last night was his was his 3rd and he is batting .330 (8th in the league). His OBP of .435 is 4th highest in the South Atlantic League.
