Game Thread: Mets face Nationals; Phillies hope to be alone in first place

Come see if the Phillies can be alone in first place for the first time since 2011!

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Phillies used to be in first place all the time.

These days, not so much. Until today. The Phillies are actually in first place now, following a solid Jeremy Hellickson start and even more Tyler Goeddel heroism. The only problem is, other than all of the Phillies' many problems, is that the Nationals are standing in the way.

So, tonight, here's hoping the Mets can fend off Washington and inadvertently give the Phillies sole ownership of the NL East. And if they can't, then, well - at least the Mets lost.

Today's Lineups
