Phillies Minor League Roundup - May 26, 2016

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Weekend Probables:

LHV: TBD, Mark Appel, Zach Eflin
REA: Ben Lively, TBD, TBD
CLR: Tyler Viza, Tom Eshelman, Matt Imhof
LWD: Franklyn Kilome, Drew Anderson, Jose Tavares

Lehigh Valley 11, Pawtucket 4

Jake Thompson - 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR, 6 GB, 7 FB
Severino Gonzalez - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, HR
Carlos Alonso - 0 for 4, R, 2 BB
J.P. Crawford - 3 for 5, 2 R
Nick Williams - 3 for 3, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB, HBP
Darin Ruf - 3 for 4, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, K
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K, SB, CS

The IronPigs absolutely destroyed Red Sox prospect Henry Owens (yes, the guy that Red Sox fans wanted to be a headline for a potential Cole Hamels trade). Darin Ruf was obviously saving all his good at-bats for the LHV and has 4 HR in 39 AAA ABs this season. He had all of zero in 57 attempts with the Phillies. Nick Williams reaches base in each of his 5 plate appearances. Crawford earned his first multi-hit effort in AAA and has hits in 4 of his 6 games with Lehigh Valley. Cedric Hunter and Angelys Nina also had dingers in the game, if you are interested in that sort of thing. Jake Thompson regressed a bit in this outing, but still tallied his 3rd win.

Reading 7, Erie 4

John Richy - 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HBP, 6 GB, 2 FB
Joely Rodriguez - 1.2 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, K, WP
Miguel Nunez - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K, HBP
Roman Quinn - 0 for 5, BB, SB
Cody Asche - 0 for 4, BB, K
Jorge Alfaro - 1 for 4, HR, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K, SB (outfield assist, home)
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, HR, K
Angelo Mora - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI (fielding error)
Jesmuel Valentin - 3 for 4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI

John Richy was cruising through the first four innings (only 2 hits allowed) before he ran into trouble in the 5th inning with two walks and two singles prompting his early exit from the contest. Jorge Alfaro hit yet another HR, his 4th and 3rd in his last 10 games. Rhys Hoskins also added his 9th longball of the season in 2nd inning. Roman Quinn stole his 22nd SB and is now just 2 off the Eastern League lead. Jesmuel Valentin is certainly making a case for a mid-season promotion. The 22 year old second baseman is slashing .281/.344/.404 with 2 HR and 4 SB in 146 at-bats. If the Phillies ever decide to end the Emmanuel Burris experiment and promote Darnell Sweeney, Valentin could find a place in Lehigh Valley sooner than later.

Clearwater 1, Brevard County 0

Elniery Garcia - 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 4 GB, 4 FB
Ulises Joaquin - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Alexis Rivero - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Scott Kingery - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 3B
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, 2 K
Zach Green - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Gabriel Lino - 0 for 3, K
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 3, K
Samuel Hiciano - 0 for 3, K
Derek Campbell - 1 for 3 (fielding error)

Elniery Garcia has been quietly very good all season. In now 7 of his 8 appearances this season, he has given up 2 runs or less. He sports a 2.08 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and has 40 strikeouts to 14 walks in 47.2 innings. Offense was sparse last night between both squad, with each mustering just 4 hits a piece. The run that stood up came in the 1st inning via a Carlos Tocci sacrifice fly to score Kingery who had led the game off with a triple.

Delmarva 1, Lakewood 0 (11 innings)

Harold Arauz - 8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 10 GB, 6 FB
Robert Tasin - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 K
Sutter McLoughlin - 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 4, 2 K
Brendon Hayden - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K
Wilson Garcia - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 4, 3 K, CS
Austin Bossart - 0 for 4, 2 K (two throwing errors)
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4, 2B
Carlos Duran - 2 for 4, K, SB
Venn Biter - 0 for 4, 2 K, CS (outfield assist, 3B)

Harold Arauz has found his groove. In his last 3 starts he has gone 21 innings of 11 hit, 0 earned run ball with 20 strikeouts and 7 walks. Sadly, the offense had some issues last night. They collectively struckout 16 times and failed to work a walk.
