Game Thread: Phillies vs Diamondbacks 6/18/16

Teams are 1,631-2* in games after a fan runs onto the field. So, the odds are in the Phillies favor! *(Stat completely fabricated. Do not cite this to justify being an inconsiderate prick.)

SERIES PREVIEW

Phillies (30-38) at Diamondbacks (30-39)

Citizens Bank Park

3:05PM EDT on CSN

Today's game pits Jerad Eickhoff against Zack Greinke. Greinke struggled to start the season but has recently righted his ship, surrendering just 2 runs over his last 3 games. Unless the Phillies have hired the Cigarette Smoking Man to inject his right shoulder with novocaine, they stand to score at best an imaginary number of runs based primarily on us crying, "what if [Phillies hitter] hadn't flailed at that [Greinke pitch]?!"

For his part, Eickhoff has been the second most fun pitcher on the Phillies to watch over the last month. And with Aaron Nola's debacle on Thursday, he has a chance today to take over that mantle. Eickhoff's improvement after struggles in late April and early May are due to using his slider--a tight breaking pitch--much more. Apparently, we have Larry Andersen to thank for pushing that message through Eickhoff's skull. Thanks, LA!

Fangraphs pins the chances of a Phillies win at 39%. That feels generous. Here are today's lineups. Please lodge your complaints in the comments below, along with any other reactions, insights, or what-have-you throughout the game.
