The Phils pulled out a win in the 76th game of the season. Yay. The Phils pulled out a win in the 76th game of the season. Yay. The Phils tagged the invincible Madison Bumgarner for three runs in an abortive seventh inning; meanwhile Jeremy Hellickson pitched six strong, allowing only a single earned run on five hits. The bullpen was strong today, with newby Edubray Ramos collecting his first career hold with a perfect inning; and David Hernandez and Jeanmar Gomez combining to close out the eighth and ninth.

Of the Phillies' six hits, half were for extra bases, with doubles by Maikel Franco and Tommy Joseph, and a two-run home run by Cameron Rupp in the seventh.

Discuss the finer details amongst yourselves. This recap is necessarily short because coincidentally, there was a Phrozen family gathering today that ran on much much longer than anticipated, and someone didn't watch any of the game.

With the win, the Phils improve to 32-44; meanwhile San Francisco drops to 48-28. It seems wrong to write that series of words.

The rubber match of this three-game series is tomorrow afternoon (1:05pm Pacific time), as Aaron Nola looks to rebound from several lackluster starts against the Giants' Johnny Cueto.
