Phillies Minor League Roundup - July 18, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: David Buchanan
REA: Anthony Vasquez
CLR: Elniery Garcia
WIL: Felix Paulino

Lehigh Valley 4, Indianapolis 0

Phil Klein - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 6 K, 4 GB, 1 FB
Colton Murray - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Michael Mariot - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3, K
Nick Williams - 0 for 4, K (outfield assist, 1B)
Brock Stassi - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Logan Moore - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K

Phil Klein is thrown into a starter role and flourishes, which is a good thing because the offense wasn't exactly on point. They scored 4 runs on just 4 hits and 4 walks. The only runs they wound up needing were via a 2-run double from Logan Moore in the 2nd inning. To add on the weirdness of the game, they won against top Pirates pitching prospect (and likely Top 10 overall in the minors) Tyler Glasnow.

Reading 9, New Hampshire 5

Nick Pivetta - 5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 7 GB, 3 FB
Alexis Rivero - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Mario Hollands - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, K, WP
Hoby Milner - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 2 for 4, 3 R, 2 2B, BB
Andrew Pullin - 4 for 5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI (outfield assist, 2B)
Jorge Alfaro - 2 for 5, 2 R, SB
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 5, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, SB
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 5, 2B, 2 K (throwing error)

Nick Pivetta didn't bring his best stuff last night after throwing a 5 inning shutout in his last start. Thankfully Reading's "Murderer's Row" was on hand to relieve any pressure from the mound. Dylan Cozens hit his 25th HR, a 3-run blast in the 1st inning. He also stole his 17th base. Jorge Alfaro stole his 2nd base and with a multi-hit game is now slashing .296/.333/.485 in 270 at-bats. You can get mildly excited now. Little talked about Reading prospect, Jesmuel Valentin, just continues to fly under the radar despite a breakout season at the plate. He is batting .288/.360/.420 with 5 HR and 4 SB in 319 at-bats.

Clearwater 2, Bradenton 0 (10 innings)

John Richy - 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 11 GB, 5 FB
Victor Arano - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Matt Hockenberry - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K, WP
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, R
Scott Kingery - 2 for 3, BB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, K
Kyle Martin - 0 for 5, R, 3 K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, K
Zach Green - 0 for 3, BB, K
Chace Numata - 3 for 4, BB, SB
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 5, 2 K
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 4, 2 K

John Richy pitches his best game of the season, giving up a season-low 0 ER and going a season-high 7 innings. The offense failed to get going, forcing extra innings. Mitch Walding delivered the go-ahead run with a RBI-single in the 10th. An insurance run was added in the next at-bat via a wild pitch to score Kyle Martin. Victor Arano earned his 3rd win of the season and Matt Hockenberry saved his 2nd game for Clearwater. Scott Kingery improved his season-line to .299/.368/.420.

Lakewood 3, Charleston 1 (Game 1 of doubleheader, 8 innings)
Lakewood 2, Charleston 0 (Game 2 of doubleheader, 7 innings, makeup of 7/17 ppd)

Alberto Tirado - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, HBP, 1 GB, 0 FB
Jeff Singer - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 3 GB, 1 FB (three pickoffs)
Seranthony Dominguez - 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K, WP, 8 GB, 2 FB
Zack Coppola - 4 for 6, 2 R, RBI, BB, K, HBP, SB
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 7, R, K
Josh Tobias - 3 for 7, K
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 7, 2B, 3 RBI, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 2, 2 BB, 2 K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4 (passed ball)
Carlos Duran - 1 for 6, R, 2 K
Brendon Hayden - 0 for 3 (pickoff error)
Emmanuel Marrero - 1 for 6, 2 K, CS
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 3, HR
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3, 2B
William Cuicas - 0 for 3, K

Lakewood sweeps the doubleheader thanks to some outstanding pitching performances. Seranthony Dominguez dominated the 2nd game and after a disastrous BlueClaw debut, he has gone: 12 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 9 K. Zack Coppola stole his 9th base and improved his line to .327/.396/.363 in 171 at-bats. Wilson Garcia hit his 2nd HR (and was the catcher in the 2nd game).

Williamsport 7, West Virginia 4

Ranger Suarez - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 9 GB, 2 FB
Alexander Kline - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K
Jake Kezler - 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER
Mark Laird - 3 for 4, 2 R, BB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 4 for 5, 2 R (throwing error)
David Martinelli - 1 for 4, RBI, BB
