Phillies Minor League Roundup - July 19, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: Jake Thompson
REA: Tyler Viza
CLR: Luke Leftwich
LWD: Franklyn Kilome

Lehigh Valley 4, Indianapolis 1

David Buchanan - 8.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 13 GB, 3 FB
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Nick Williams - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Brock Stassi - 1 for 4, K
Cam Perkins - 3 for 4, R, 2B
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 4, R, K

David Buchanan came one out away from the complete game shutout before allowing a RBI single in the 9th. Luis Garcia came in to record the last out and his 2nd save in LHV. Nick Williams has quietly hit .302 over his last 10 games and is batting .290/.325/.463 overall. It should also be noted that Darnell Sweeney played 3B last night, marking his 15th game at the hot corner. He is trying to work himself into a utility 2B/3B/CF player, but the bat and defense remains pretty underwhelming.

New Hampshire 7, Reading 5

Anthony Vasquez - 4 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 3 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Gregory Infante - 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Joely Rodriguez - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K (pickoff error)
Miguel Nunez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 4, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K
Jorge Alfaro - 1 for 3, RBI, BB (passed ball)
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 3, R, 2 RBI, BB, K
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Angelo Mora - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, K

This wasn't your typical Anthony Vasquez AA start and he was even spotted a 5-2 lead. Cozens' two RBI's last night gave him 82 on the season. It was also a rare night in which the Reading offense failed to produce an extra-base hit.

Bradenton 6, Clearwater 5

Elniery Garcia - 6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 10 GB, 4 FB
Jesen Therrien - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, K (throwing error)
Jimmy Cordero - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, WP
Ulises Joaquin - 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 5, K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, R
Aaron Altherr - 2 for 4, 2 R, RBI, K, HBP
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB
Mitch Walding - 3 for 4, 3 RBI, BB (fielding error)
Zach Green - 0 for 4, K, HBP
Chace Numata - 1 for 4, RBI, K (throwing error)
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 4
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 3, R, BB, SB

Elniery Garcia couldn't quite top his performance from last week, an 8 inning 1 hit shutout. He left the game in line for the loss. Clearwater would however battle back and eventually the tie game back up in the top of the 9th with a RBI-single from Mitch Walding to score Aaron Altherr. Sadly, Ulises Joaquin (combined with a costly Numata throwing error) would blow the game in the bottom of the inning. Altherr continues his rehab trail and I'd venture he won't be too long for Clearwater before he is packing his suitcase for Lehigh Valley.

West Virginia 6, Williamsport 4

Felix Paulino - 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 10 GB, 2 FB
Kenny Koplove - 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K, HBP
Jonathan Hennigan - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Tyler Hallead - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Mark Laird - 0 for 4, R, BB, K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI
Henri Lartigue - 0 for 4, 2 K
Brett Barbier - 0 for 4, K
Luke Maglich - 0 for 4, K
Luis Encarnacion - 0 for 4, 4 K (missed catch error)
Chandler Hall - 2 for 2, 3 R, 2B, BB, HBP (two throwing errors)
Evan Rogers - 1 for 4, K
Jesus Alastre - 1 for 3, 2 RBI, SB

Felix Paulino fell to 0-3 following this start and was undermined by some really bad defense. Jesus Alastre, despite batting over .500 in his last 10 games, batted 9th in the lineup. His SB was his 5th of the season. Luis Encarnacion with just about as bad as a night you can have. He is batting .158 with 38 strikeouts in just 101 at-bats.
