Phillies Minor League Roundup - July 20, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: Adam Morgan
REA: Eshelman
CLR: TBD
LWD: Jose Tavares
WIL: Bailey Falter

Lehigh Valley 2, Indianapolis 0

Jake Thompson - 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K, 7 GB, 3 FB
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 3, R, BB
Nick Williams - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, 2B, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 4, K

So, Jake Thompson is on a bit of a tear right now. He improved to 9-5, lowered his ERA to 2.29 and has given up just 1 earned run in his last 4 starts (27.1 IP). I'd be shocked if he isn't added once they trade Hellickson. Nick Williams hits his 9th HR of the season, a two-run dinger in the 1st inning.

New Hampshire 4, Reading 2

Tyler Viza - 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR, 3 GB, 4 FB
Mark Leiter - 3 IP, 1 H ,1 R, 0 ER, BB, HBP
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 5
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 3, RBI, 2 K
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 3, HR, SB, HBP
Angelo Mora - 0 for 4, 2 K
Gabriel Lino - 1 for 3 (pickoff and throwing errors)
Jorge Alfaro - 0 for 1, K (pinch hitter)

Tyler Viza puts up a dud and falls to 3-3 in AA. Viza has started doing that thing the last month where he alternates good and bad starts. The offense didn't have Cozens or Alfaro (mostly) in the lineup and struggled to capitalize on scoring runs. The Fightin Phils went 0 for 10 with RISP and left 8 on base. Hoskins was the lone bright spot, hitting his MiLB-leading 26th HR. He also swiped his 3rd base on the season. Jesmuel Valentin is now 0 for 9 in his last two games.

Clearwater 5, Bradenton 2

Luke Leftwich - 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 5 GB, 5 FB
Matt Hockenberry - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB
Victor Arano - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K, WP
Scott Kingery - 1 for 5, R, 2 K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, R, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Zach Green - 0 for 5, 3 K
Derek Campbell - 0 for 3, RBI, BB, K
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 4, 2 HR
Austin Bossart - 1 for 2
Chace Numata - 0 for 1, BB

Things have gone pretty badly for Luke Leftwich since being promoted to Clearwater. Hopefully, this is the start of a turnaround for the 22 year old RHP. He had given up just 1 HR entering the game (83.2 IP) before giving up two in this one. He and the bullpen got help via the longball. Jiandido Tromp hit his 3rd and 4th HR with Clearwater and Kyle Martin added his 13th. Across two levels, Tromp has 14 HR and 12 SB.

Lakewood 2, Kannapolis 1

Franklyn Kilome - 6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 9 K, HBP, 1 GB, 5 FB
Austin Davis - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Zach Morris - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Zack Coppola - 0 for 3, BB, SB
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 4, 2 K
Josh Tobias - 0 for 4, R, K
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 4, K
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Wilson Garcia - 2 for 4
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Carlos Duran - 1 for 3, K
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 2, BB, CS

Franklyn Kilome's ERA has reached a season-low 4.46 and did so while striking out a season-high 9 batters (well, he also struck out 9 back on 6/9). All hits he allowed were singles. Cornelius Randolph is batting .308 in his last 10 games. Coppola reaches double-digits in stolen bases with his 10th swipe.

GCL Phillies 10, GCL Pirates 6

Mauricio Llovera - 3 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP, 2 HBP
Kyle Young - 3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K
Andrew Brown - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K (pickoff error)
Tyler Frohwirth - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Daniel Brito - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB, HBP
Josh Stephen - 0 for 3, R, BB, K, SB, HBP (fielding error)
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, 2 SB, HBP
Malvin Matos - 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Caleb Eldridge - 0 for 5, 2 K
Jose Antequera - 1 for 5, R, 3B
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 2, R, BB, K
Nerluis Martinez - 1 for 2, R, RBI
Raul Rivas - 1 for 4, R, K, HBP
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K

The GCL Phils offense is fueled by 10 hits and 5 walks. Mickey Moniak has himself a day, stealing his 2nd and 3rd bases and improving his average to .317.
