I’ll keep it short and sweet today: the Phillies won, and it was great.
They exploded for seven runs in the second inning. The seven runs came on six hits, and every single one of them was an extra base hit. Peter Bourjos, who was 3-for-3 today, extended his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest of his career. In those 13 games, Bourjos has raised his average from .217 to .278. That’s insane. In the 12 games leading up to today, Bourjos has hit .447/.500/.681. He’s been on base half the time. HALF. THE. TIME.
But the crown jewel of the inning was Maikel Franco’s monster two-run home run. Behold!
Big @Phillies frame includes 448-foot Maikel Franco jack, their longest of 2016. https://t.co/29ImTuB6nP #Statcast pic.twitter.com/lCxSX7V1SY

GLORIOUS.
Jerad Eickhoff was stupendous. He pitched for 7 2/3 innings, allowing just five hits and striking out eight. God, it’s so nice to see superior pitching again. (I MISS YOU AARON NOLA.)
You can click here now and see all the video highlights from this game. I’d love to embed some, but MLBAM (I KNOW YOUR INTERNS/LAWYERS ARE READING THIS) hates fun and joy and they’re a bunch of asses, so all I can do is link you to them.
If you’re lucky enough to be somewhere it’s not raining right now, I hope you enjoy the fireworks tonight. And if you’re setting off some of your own, for the love of all things holy, stay safe.
