Phillies Minor League Roundup - July 5, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: Jake Thompson
REA: Tyler Viza
CLR: TBD
LWD: Franklyn Kilome
WIL: Felix Paulino

Lehigh Valley 4, Scranton/WB 3 (10 innings)

Anthony Vasquez - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, 6 GB, 5 FB
Edward Mujica - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
J.P. Crawford - 2 for 5, HR
Nick Williams - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Andrew Knapp - 2 for 4, R, 2B, BB, K
Brock Stassi - 0 for 3, RBI
Cam Perkins - 2 for 4, RBI, picked off

There has been a recent clamor with J.P. Crawford, despite his improved hitting, that power needed to come at the plate. J.P. answered with his first AAA dinger last night in the 10th, which proved to be the game-winner. Edward Mujica picked up his 22nd save. In Mujica's last 18 appearances he has gone 19.1 IP, 16 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 11 K.

Reading 9, Richmond 7

Ricardo Pinto - 5 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, K, WP, 9 GB, 2 FB (missed catch error)
Joely Rodriguez - 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, K
Hoby Milner - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K, HBP
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 5, 2 R, K
Angelo Mora - 0 for 5, 2 K (missed catch error)
Jorge Alfaro - 1 for 2, 2 R, RBI, 3 BB
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 5, R, 2 RBI, 2 K
Rhys Hoskins - 3 for 5, 2 HR, 6 RBI, K (fielding error)
Harold Martinez - 1 for 4

Rhys Hoskins hit two 3-run HR's in the game. One in the 5th inning and the other in the 7th. That gives him 24 total on the season, which is good for tops in all of minor league baseball. Hoskins is certainly turning some heads right now, both figuratively and literally. Ricardo Pinto's up and down season continued last night with another uneven performance. He is walking far too many batters for the amount of hits he has been giving up. Jorge Alfaro now has 7 walks in his last 5 games. He had 4 in his previous 51 games. Positive trends!

Clearwater 6, Lakeland 1

Will Morris - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, 11 GB, 3 FB
Victor Arano - 2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 K
Ulises Joaquin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, WP
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4, R, BB, 3 K
Scott Kingery - 1 for 4, 2B, BB
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB
Zach Green - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, RBI, BB, HBP
Chace Numata - 0 for 4
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, K
Derek Campbell - 0 for 1, 2 R, BB, 2 HBP

This was truly a bizarre game just looking at the boxscore. Clearwater was out-hit 10 to 3 in the game and were 2 for 11 with RISP. However, they were able to work 8 walks and 3 HBP. Will Morris moves back to the rotation yet again and has his best start since a spot start with Reading when he went 5 innings and gave up 1 run. Scott Kingery improved his hitting streak to 3 games and is batting .441 in his last 10. Carlos Tocci's 3 RBI's were his most in a game since April 9th.

Delmarva 14, Lakewood 2

Seranthony Dominguez - 1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, K, WP
Jacob Waguespack - 1.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, HR
Luis Morales - 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 2 K
Zach Morris - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Luis Espiritu - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3, R, HBP
Zack Coppola - 1 for 4, K (fielding error)
Josh Tobias - 0 for 4, K
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 3, RBI, BB
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, HR, K
Carlos Duran - 1 for 4, K, SB
Brendon Hayden - 2 for 4
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 4, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 1 for 4, K

Seranthony Dominguez might not have been quite ready for a promotion, though the veteran Lakewood relievers behind him didn't fare so well either. The BlueClaws were outhit 18 to 9. Jose Pujols hit yet another HR (his 16th) and now has back-to-back HR games.

Connecticut 6, Williamsport 4

Ranger Suarez - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 9 GB, 5 FB
Jonathan Hennigan - 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 2 WP, HBP
Tyler Hallead - 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER
Will Hibbs - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
David Martinelli - 1 for 5, R, K, CS
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 5, R, K
Lucas Williams - 2 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, K (throwing error)
Darick Hall - 1 for 5, K
Luis Encarnacion - 1 for 4, 3 K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, HR, K (2 fielding errors)
Luke Maglich - 0 for 4, 2 K
William Cuicas - 1 for 3, BB, K (throwing error)
Juan Luis - 1 for 1, 2 BB, HBP

Ranger Suarez was really good again, but fails to factor into the decision. 2016 21st Rounder Jonathan Hennigan picks up his first major league loss. Lucas Williams hit his 1st HR of the season, which was also the first of his pro career. Gamboa added his 1st of the year in the 5th, also the first of his career.

GCL Phillies 5, GCL Pirates 3 (12 innings)

Luis Carrasco - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, WP, HBP
Ismael Cabrera - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K (throwing error)
Justin Miller - 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, HBP
Jordan Kurokawa - 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K
Jose Nin - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Jhon Nunez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Josh Stephen - 1 for 5, R, 3B, BB, 2 K
Malvin Matos - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB, K, SB, HBP
Danny Zardon - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Caleb Eldridge - 0 for 6, 3 K (pickoff error)
Jhailyn Ortiz - 2 for 6, HR, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 3 (two passed balls)
Nerluis Martinez - 1 for 2, R, RBI, BB
Lenin Rodriguez - 3 for 5, 2B, RBI, BB
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 5, K
Raul Rivas - 1 for 5, K

Luis Carrasco improves upon his state-side debut last week with an excellent outing. Jhailyn Ortiz hits another bomb, his 2nd of the season and 2nd in as many days. The power is tantalizing with Ortiz and exciting to project. Cole Stobbe is having a tough going to start his pro career, hitting 0 for 13. Lenin Rodriguez doesn't seem to be having any trouble so far, going 5 for 12.
