Phillies Minor League Roundup - August 10, 2016

Today's Probables:

LHV: Anthony Vasquez
REA: Mark Leiter
CLR: GM1 Brandon Leibrandt, GM2 Shane Watson
LWD: TBD
WIL: GM1 Adonis Medina, GM2 Cole Irvin

Scranton/WB 10, Lehigh Valley 0

David Buchanan - 4.1 IP, 9 H, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 K, HR, WP, 8 GB, 2 FB
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 3, BB
Nick Williams - 0 for 2, BB
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 4 (passed ball)
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3 (fielding error)
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 2, BB, K (throwing error)

This was just a bad game. David Buchanan gets battered by former major leaguers Ben Gamel and Donovan Solano and Yankees prospects Aaron Judge (HR) and Clint Frazier (3 hits). James Russell gave up the other 4 runs in relief (though only 1 was earned). The offense was held to just 3 hits in the game. Nick Williams was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 9th inning, so if anyone has heard anything there I'm curious to know.

Binghampton 7, Reading 3

Tyler Viza - 5 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 3 GB, 3 FB
Victor Arano - 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 4 K, WP
Alexis Rivero - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, 3B, BB, 2 K (outfield assist, 3B)
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, BB
Jorge Alfaro - 2 for 5, RBI, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 3, RBI, K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, K
Angelo Mora - 1 for 3, R, K
Scott Kingery - 1 for 2, R, 2B, K

Tyler Viza wasn't very good and now has back-to-back bad starts. Roman Quinn hit his 5th triple last night and Dylan Cozens' sac-fly RBI was his 104th on the season. In his last 10 games, Jorge Alfaro is batting .318. This was a rare quiet night for Hoskins, who didn't reach base or plate a run for the first time since 7/30.

Clearwater, Tampa (ppd due to rain, makeup on 8/11)

Lakewood 5, Delmarva 0

Jose Tavares - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, WP, 4 GB, 4 FB
Zach Morris - 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K, WP
Mark Laird - 2 for 5, R
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 5, 2B
Jose Pujols - 2 for 5, HR
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 4, R, RBI
Wilson Garcia - 2 for 3, HBP
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4, R, 2B, K
Edgar Cabral - 2 for 4, 2 RBI
William Cuicas - 0 for 4, K

Jose Tavares delivers his first shutout performance since a similar 7 innings shutout back on May 9th. He improved to 5-8 on the season with a 3.77 ERA in 112.1 innings of work. He has 124 strikeouts to 17 walks. The BlueClaw offense out-hit Delmarva 13 to 6. Cornelius Randolph improved his hitting streak to 6 games and his double last night was his 8th with Lakewood. Jose Pujols blasts his FSL-leading 21st HR. Edgar Cabral gets back-to-back starts for the first time since July 4/5.

Williamsport, Hudson Valley (ppd due to rain, makeup on 8/11)

GCL Tigers West 2, GCL Phillies 1

Will Stewart - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, WP, 6 GB, 2 FB
Luis Gonzalez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Oskerlly Sanchez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Jose Nin - 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB
Josh Stephen - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 4, 2 K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 4, 3 K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 3, CS, picked off
Danny Zardon - 1 for 2, R, BB, K
Nerluis Martinez - 1 for 3
Malvin Matos - 1 for 3, RBI
Jose Antequera - 0 for 2, K
Raul Rivas - 0 for 3 (throwing error)

Will Stewart churned out one of his better outings of the season, striking out a season-high 6 batters. It wasn't enough as the offense was stifled for most of the game. The Phils tied it at 1 in the top of the 8th inning via a RBI-single from Malvin Matos to score Danny Zardon. In the bottom of the inning, Jose Nin would walk the leadoff batter. On a sacrifice bunt in the next at-bat, a throwing error from Raul Rivas allows the eventual winning run to score. Mickey Moniak going through a rare cold-spell as he is 0 for 10 in his last 3 games.
