Today's Probables:

LHV: Phil Klein
REA: TBD
CLR: Brandon Leibrandt
LWD: GM1 Seranthony Dominguez, GM2 Franklyn Kilome
WIL: Baily Falter

Lehigh Valley 2, Scranton/WB 1

Ben Lively - 8 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 8 K, HBP, 3 GB, 7 FB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3, BB, K
Nick Williams - 1 for 4, R, K
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 4, 3 K (passed ball)
Cam Perkins - 0 for 3, K
Brock Stassi - 2 for 3, R, 2B
Jesmuel Valentin - 0 for 2, K

Ben Lively looks as though he is bouncing back from a string of ugly starts in June/July. The 8 innings were a season-high and the 8 strikeouts were his most in a game since back on May 15 when he struck out 12 batters in Reading. IronPigs were down 1-0 entering the bottom of the 6th when an Andrew Knapp GIDP resulted in Nick Williams crossing home plate to tie the game. The following inning Cedric Hunter hit a RBI-single to score Brock Stassi to put Lehigh Valley up for good.

Reading 4, Bowie 2

Nick Pivetta - 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 K, HR, 8 GB, 5 FB
Hoby Milner - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, K
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 4
Jorge Alfaro - 0 for 4, K (passed ball)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 4, 3 K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, R, BB
Angelo Mora - 1 for 3, RBI, K

Nick Pivetta gets win number 10 and has not so quietly put together a pretty good season. In 119 innings he has 106 strikeouts to 37 walks and an ERA/WHIP of 3.55 and 1.20, respectively. Dylan Cozens struggles at the plate continue and has 18 strikeouts in his last 39 at-bats. KC Serna broke the tie ballgame in the bottom of the 7th with a 2-run HR, his 7th, to put Reading ahead.

Lakewood, Greensboro (ppd due to rain, makeup part of doubleheader on 8/3)

Mahoning Valley 2, Williamsport 1

Felix Paulino - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 6 K, 7 GB, 2 FB (throwing error)
Scott Harris - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K, WP
Juan Luis - 1 for 4, 2 K
Luis Espiritu - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K, picked off
David Martinelli - 1 for 4, R, 2 K (outfield assist, home)
Gregori Rivero - 1 for 4, K, SB
Luke Maglich - 2 for 4, 2B, K
Luis Encarnacion - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Evan Rogers - 0 for 3, BB, SB (throwing error)
Chandler Hall - 1 for 3, 2B
Enmanuel Garcia - 0 for 3, K

Felix Paulino on a bit of a hot streak having done this in his last 3 starts: 17 IP, 13 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 15 K. The offense struggled behind him going 0 for 7 with RISP and leaving 6 on base. Not that anyone outside maybe Rivero, Alastre or Laird are hitting all that well, but at some point you may need to bench Luis Encarnacion. He is slashing .162/.204/.200 and the scouting reports are pretty damning.

GCL Phillies 11, GCL Yankees East 7

Mauricio Llovera - 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 1 GB, 3 FB
Kyle Young - 2.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, K
Geury Ortiz - 1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, K, WP (fielding error)
Jose Nin - 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Roman Quinn - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2B, SB
Daniel Brito - 3 for 4, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBI (throwing error)
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, RBI
Danny Zardon - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI (fielding error)
Raul Rivas - 1 for 1, RBI
Josh Stephen - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI (fielding error)
Jose Antequera - 1 for 5, 2B, RBI, 3 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 4, BB, K
Rodolfo Duran - 2 for 2, R
Daniel Garner - 1 for 3, K (throwing error)
Ben Pelletier - 2 for 3, 2 R, BB, SB

This game was a hot mess. Mauricio Llovera didn't face the brunt of the punishment, improving to 4-1 and lowering his ERA to 2.73 (33 IP). Both teams combined for 34 hits and 5 walks. Mickey Moniak hit his 3rd triple and double of the season. Roman Quinn is feasting off these recent draftees, hitting a cool .500 in 6 games with 6 stolen bases.
