Phillies Minor League Roundup - September 1, 2016

Weekend Probables:

LHV: Ben Lively, Nick Pivetta, Phil Klein
REA: Mark Leiter, Ricardo Pinto, John Richy
CLR: Elniery Garcia, TBD, GM1 TBD, GM2 TBD
LWD: Seranthony Dominguez, Jose Tavares, Franklyn Kilome
WIL: Felix Paulino, Ranger Suarez, Bailey Falter
GCL: Playoff Semifinals on Saturday

Rochester 1, Lehigh Valley 0

Anthony Vasquez - 8 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 8 K, HR, 6 GB, 7 FB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 4, K
Nick Williams - 0 for 4, 3 K
Andrew Knapp - 1 for 3, BB
Cam Perkins - 0 for 4
Brock Stassi - 1 for 3, BB
Darnell Sweeney - 0 for 4, 3 K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 3

Look what happens when you remove an offense force like Darin Ruf from the lineup! Anthony Vasquez, the good soldier he has been for this team the past two year, suffers the defeat despite what might be his best performance all season. Andrew Knapp has a 6-game hitting streak and has hits in 8 of his last 10 games. The offense last night went 0 for 3 with RISP and left 8 on base.

Portland 6, Reading 0

Tyler Viza - 5 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, HR, 7 GB, 5 FB
Alexis Rivero - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K
Miguel Nunez - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Scott Kingery - 1 for 4, K
Jorge Alfaro - 0 for 4, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, 2B, K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 4, 3 K
Aaron Brown - 1 for 3, 2 K

Well, that wasn't a very good game, was it? Tyler Viza was pretty bad, failing to strikeout a batter in a game for the first time this season. The offense was completely shutout outside of Dylan Cozens, who seems to have broken out of his August slump. I guess getting a few games at home will do that for him.

Clearwater, Dunedin (postponed due to rain, makeup on 9/4 as a doubleheader)

Lakewood 2, Kannapolis 0

Alberto Tirado - 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 10 K, HBP, 1 GB, 4 FB
Blake Quinn - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Sutter McLoughlin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Mark Laird - 3 for 4, 2B, K
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 3, 2 K, HBP
Jose Pujols - 0 for 3, BB, K
Damek Tomscha - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Wilson Garcia - 0 for 4
Carlos Duran - 1 for 3, BB
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4, 2B, SB
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 3, R, BB
Emmanuel Marrero - 2 for 4, R

Alberto Tirado might be figuring things out. This is a very, very good thing for the Phillies if true. Tirado took a no-hitter into the 5th inning and was hitting 100 mph on the gun. The difference in the score came down to bad defense. Chicago White Sox prospect Alec Hansen had a throwing error in the 5th inning allowing both BlueClaw runs to score.

Williamsport 10, Batavia 3

JoJo Romero - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, WP, HBP, 5 GB, 5 FB
Kenny Koplove - 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, K, HBP
Jonathan Hennigan - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Juan Luis - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB, SB
Luke Maglich - 1 for 5, R, K, SB
David Martinelli - 0 for 4, R, BB
Darick Hall - 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K, HBP, CS
Lucas Williams - 1 for 5, R, 2 RBI, K
Brett Barbier - 3 for 5, R (passed ball)
Luis Encarnacion - 1 for 4, R, 2 RBI, K
Luis Espiritu - 1 for 4, RBI
Chandler Hall - 2 for 3, R, RBI, picked off

JoJo Romero just keeps cruising along, though last night one of his better starts this season. The 4 walks were a season-high. Darick Hall hit his 8th HR, his 2nd in as many days. The large 21 first baseman is slashing .287/.375/.519 in 181 at-bats. Both Juan Luis and Luke Maglich stole their 8th bases of the season.

GCL Phillies, GCL Blue Jays Doubleheader (cancelled due to rain, will not be made up)
