Today's Games:
LHV: Game 2 of Divisional Series (Anthony Vasquez starting)
REA: Game 2 of Divisional Series (Ricardo Pinto starting)
Scranton/WB 2, Lehigh Valley 0
Ben Lively - 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 K, HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3, BB, K
Nick Williams - 0 for 4, 3 K
Andrew Knapp - 0 for 3, BB, K
Cam Perkins - 1 for 4
Brock Stassi - 2 for 4, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 2, BB
Welp, this could have gone better. Ben Lively's lone mistake was a 2-run bomb given up in the top of the 8th inning that sailed over Nick Williams' head. The offense combined for 4 hits and went 0 for 2 with RISP. Nick Williams is 4 for 38 with 17 strikeouts in his last 10 games.
Trenton 3, Reading 2
Mark Leiter - 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K, 2 WP, HBP, 5 GB, 2 FB
Roman Quinn - 1 for 5, 2 R, K, SB
Jorge Alfaro - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K (throwing error)
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, BB, K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, 3 K
Despite an extraordinary effort from Mark Leiter, the Fightin Phils lose Game 1 of the best of five series. Even with contributing one of the runs batted in, Jorge Alfaro committed the costly error that allowed the go-head run to reach 3rd (eventually scoring on a wild pitch) in the top of the 7th and committed the last out of the game with a strikeout swinging.
Lakewood 6, Hagerstown 1
Alberto Tirado - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, WP, HBP, 3 GB, 2 FB
Grant Dyer - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Zach Morris - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Sutter McLoughlin - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K
Mark Laird - 1 for 4
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 4, BB, K
Jose Pujols - 2 for 5, R, 2 K
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 4, RBI
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 4, 2 R, 2B
Carlos Duran - 1 for 3, R, BB
Emmanuel Marrero - 3 for 4, R, 2 RBI
Things started off shaky for Alberto Tirado in the first in which he walked a batter, hit a batter, threw a wild pitch and gave up a single to score his lone run. He did strikeout the side to end the inning. The bullpen took the ball earlier than expected and held the lead. The offense combined for 12 hits and 3 walks to cruise to an easy victory, striking for 3 runs in the 5th, 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th.
GCL Phillies 3, GCL Cardinals 2 (Game 2 of the GCL Championship Series)
Kevin Gowdy - 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 6 GB, 1 FB
Nick Fanti - 5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 6 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Randy Alcantara - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Jose Nin - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, WP
Daniel Brito - 2 for 4, K (fielding error)
Josh Stephen - 1 for 3, R, BB, K (throwing error)
Danny Zardon - 1 for 4, R
Malvin Matos - 1 for 2, R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB, K, SB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 3 for 4, 2 RBI, K
Lenin Rodriguez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 4, 3 K (fielding error)
Nerluis Martinez - 1 for 3, BB
Raul Rivas - 1 for 4, CS
Phillies tie the best of three series at 1 game a piece. Kevin Gowdy got no help in his 2 innings of work, dealing with a Brito and Stephen error to score both unearned runs. Nick Fanti locked it down, much as he has done all season long for the GCL Phils. The offense scored all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the 5th via a RBI double from Malvin Matos and a 2-RBI single from Jhailyn Ortiz.
GCL Cardinals 4, GCL Phillies 2 (Game 3 of the GCL Championship Series)
Kyle Young - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, WP, 7 GB, 4 FB
Luis Carrasco - 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, WP, HBP
Jordan Kurokawa - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Tyler Frohwirth - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB
Daniel Brito - 2 for 4, R
Josh Stephen - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Danny Zardon - 1 for 3, 2 RBI
Malvin Matos - 0 for 4, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 4, K
Jose Antequera - 0 for 3
Lenin Rodriguez - 1 for 4
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 4, 4 K (throwing error)
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 4
The magical season comes to an end because of the stinking Cardinals. More fuel for the fire I guess. GCL Phillies had a 2-1 lead entering the top of the 6th. Carrasco had been excellent all season, but his hiccup last night was disastrous. The GCL offense would muster just 1 more hit following the lead-change.
