From here on out, why spring training games matter. Felske Files Episode 99!

It’s getting late in spring training, which means it’s time to start taking these things more seriously.

MLB: Spring Training-Toronto Blue Jays at Philadelphia Phillies Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Most of spring training is about veteran players getting their work in and perfecting pitches while hitters are concentrating on getting their timing down. Young players try to make an impression and the guys competing for a bench spot are doing everything they can to scrape their way onto the 25-man roster.

But with just a dozen more spring training games left, it’s time to get serious. Most of the minor league guys have been reassigned to minor league camps to get ready for the season, and the players expected to be on the big league club are now in the process of getting ready for the regular season.

On Episode 99 of “The Felske Files,” hosts John Stolnis and Justin Klugh talk about the importance of production in these last two weeks, especially for starting pitchers. Also on this week’s podcast:

  • The Phillies name Jeremy Hellickson the Opening Day starter, but should it have been Jerad Eickhoff?
  • Does the Opening Day starter really mean anything?
  • The Phillies offense has been very 2016-ish the last week of spring training, what should our level of concern be?
  • Is John too terrified of another Aaron Nola injury?
  • Orioles’ center fielder Adam Jones made a ridiculous catch at the World Baseball Classic this weekend, was it among the best ever?
  • Was it better than this insane catch by Tony Barron back in 1997 at the Vet?
  • Why on earth did MLB set a start time for the U.S. vs. Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic game at 10pm ET?
  • Don’t they know I can’t stay up that late?
