Phillies Minor League Roundup for 4/17/17

Reading Rainbow

Today’s Probables:

LHV: TBD
REA: Tom Eshelman
CLR: Seranthony Dominguez
LWD: JoJo Romero

Akron 6, Reading 3 (10 innings)

Brandon Leibrandt - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 K, HR, 5 GB, 3 FB
Alexis Rivero - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Jesen Therrien - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 K
Miguel Nunez - 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP
Yacksel Rios - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, HBP
Scott Kingery - 0 for 3
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, RBI, CS
Kyle Martin - 0 for 3, BB, K
Chace Numata - 0 for 4, R
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, 2 K
Aaron Brown - 1 for 4, 3 K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 3, R, BB, 2 K

It’s not often that you have a chance to win a game in which you score 3 runs and are out-hit going into the 9th inning. Therrien, Nunez and Rios all played equal parts in the extra innings loss. On the bright side, LHP Brandon Leibrandt has been quietly solid in his first two AA starts. He has given up just 2 ER in 10 IP with 8 strikeouts to just 1 walk. 22 year old Alexis Rivero has now struck out 10 batters in his 7.2 innings of relief this season. The offense was boring, which the only highlight being Mitch Walding’s 2nd HR of the season.

Bradenton 5, Clearwater 1

Blake Quinn - 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Ranfi Casimiro - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Edgar Garcia - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB
Mark Laird - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 4
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 4, 2 K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, 2 K
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 3, K
Drew Stankiewicz - 0 for 2, RBI
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 3 (throwing error)

A real ‘ho-hum’ loss for the Threshers in which the starting pitcher and offense weren’t very good. Blake Quinn takes his first loss of the year after a decent full-season debut a week ago. Cornelius Randolph has entered another cold spell and is just 1 for his last 14 at the plate (5 games). Jose Pujols is now up to 22 strikeouts in 46 at-bats without a homerun. Prize to who guesses the strikeout total and games played before he hits his first HR.

Lakewood 4, Hagerstown 3 (13 innings)

Bailey Falter - 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 K, WP, HBP, 7 GB, 6 FB
Felix Paulino - 4.1 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 5 K, WP
Jonathan Hennigan - 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB
Will Hibbs - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Daniel Brito - 3 for 5, 3 R, BB, 2 K (fielding error)
Carlos Duran - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 4, 3B, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
Brett Barbier - 0 for 5, BB, 2 K
Cord Sandberg - 0 for 5, BB, K
Lucas Williams - 3 for 6, R, RBI, SB
Alex Wojciechowski - 0 for 5, K
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Jose Antequera - 1 for 5, 2 K

Bailey Falter held a 1-run lead going into the 4th inning before a Daniel Brito fielding error allowed the tying run to score. The game would remain tied at 3 for the remainder of the game until the 13th inning. Brito would make up for his error and lead the inning off with a single. After a series of sacrifice bunts, intentional walks and force outs, Lucas Williams was able to deliver a 2-out single to score Brito for the walk-off win. Brito is batting .392/.456/.588 with 3 HR and 3 SB in 51 at-bats. Williams has been off to a brutally slow start, but nearly doubled his hit-total in last night’s game.
