Phillies Minor League Roundup for 4/19/17

MLB: Spring Training-New York Yankees at Philadelphia Phillies Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Nick Pivetta (10:35 AM start)
CLR: Franklyn Kilome
LWD: Ranger Suarez

Lehigh Valley 8, Columbus 4

Ricardo Pinto - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 5 GB, 6 FB (pickoff error)
Hoby Milner - 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R
Michael Mariot - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HR
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, K
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3, R, RBI, BB
Jorge Alfaro - 0 for 4, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, HR, 4 RBI, K
Rhys Hoskins - 2 for 4, HR, K
Nick Williams - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K
Jesmuel Valentin - 1 for 4, R

For someone that really struggled in Reading (especially with the free passes), Ricardo Pinto has looked surprisingly good so far in Lehigh Valley (18.1 IP, 19 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 11 K). He earned his first AAA win courtesy of a 7-run 5th inning. Rhys Hoskins got it started with his 4th HR of the season (organization-leading, that is) and Dylan Cozens added a grandslam (his 3rd HR) to cap off the excitement. Sadly, Jorge Alfaro’s on-base streak ends at 10 games. While Crawford did go 0fer last night, he has 6 walks in his last 5 games.

Akron 12, Reading 2

Tyler Viza - 4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR, WP, HBP, 1 GB, 5 FB
Mario Sanchez - 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR, WP
Matt Hockenberry - 0.2 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, WP
Yacksel Rios - 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Scott Kingery - 2 for 5
Angelo Mora - 0 for 5, K
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 4, HR
Aaron Brown - 1 for 4, K, CS (outfield assist, 2B)
Harold Martinez - 0 for 2, R, 2 BB, K (fielding error)
Mitch Walding - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K
Chace Numata - 0 for 3, BB, 3 K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, 3 K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 2, 2 BB

Tyler Viza with the short outing last night, having throwing 80 pitches through just 4 innings of work. Unfortunately, that led to the bullpen imploding in the 5-7 innings giving up 10 combined runs. The offense behind him oddly worked more walks (7) than hits (6) in the game. Andrew Pullin provided the lone highlight for the Fightin’s, hitting his 3rd HR of the short season.

Clearwater 3, Bradenton 2

Jose Tavares - 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, WP, HBP, 7 GB, 5 FB
Tyler Gilbert - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Jeff Singer - 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Herlis Rodriguez - 2 for 5, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 5, K
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 4, R
Wilson Garcia - 2 for 4, 2 2B, RBI
Jose Pujols - 2 for 4, K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4, 3 K (passed ball)
Jan Hernandez - 3 for 4, HR, SB
Drew Stankiewicz - 3 for 4
Zach Coppola - 1 for 3 (outfield assist, 1B)

Jose Tavares just keeps doing his thing (winning games). He picks up his 2nd win and Jeff Singer, despite the surprisingly awful outing, earns his 4th save. Meanwhile, Jan Hernandez the prospect has risen from the dead and might be starting to figure things out. 30 at-bats is an extremely small sample size, but one can only hope. His HR last night was his 3rd (all solo HR). Cornelius Randolph breaks up his 3-game hitless streak and Jose Pujols with his 2nd multi-hit game in his last 3.

Hagerstown 2, Lakewood 1

Sixto Sanchez - 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Ismael Cabrera - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Zach Morris - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB
Daniel Brito - 0 for 4, 3 K
Luke Williams - 0 for 4, 2 K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 1, BB, K
David Martinelli - 1 for 2, R, 2B
Brett Barbier - 2 for 4, 2B, K
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 2, 2B, RBI, BB, SB, HBP
Carlos Duran - 0 for 4, K
Alex Wojciechowski - 0 for 4, 2 K
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 3, BB, K (throwing error)
Jose Antequera - 0 for 2 (fielding error)

Listening to the home radio broadcast, the announcers were just absolutely buzzing about Sixto Sanchez and how he has looked this season. Our buddy Matt had Sanchez’s FB at 96/97 at one point. Otherwise it was a solid outing for Sanchez who unfortunately ran up a high-pitch count due to some long at-bats and foul balls. Mickey Moniak exited the game early after being called out on a play at home plate. Ryan Lawrence is reporting him as day to day because of a hurt finger.
