Phillies MLR 5/22/17: Mickey Moniak goes deep, wins it for Lakewood

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/22

Today’s Probables:

LHV: TBD
REA: Shane Watson
CLR: GM1 - continuation of suspended game, GM2 Cole Irvin
LWD: JoJo Romero

Trenton 6, Reading 2

John Richy - 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Mario Sanchez - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB
Alexis Rivero - 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB
Scott Kingery - 1 for 3, HR, BB, CS
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 3, BB, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 1 for 4, R, K
Harold Martinez - 0 for 3, BB
Chace Numata - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, 3 K
Angelo Mora - 1 for 3, K

John Richy continues to shake off the rust after sitting the first month of the season on the DL (he may also just be bad, to be continued). Scott Kingery launches his minor league leading 14th HR of the season, his 7th dinger in his last 8 games. While this power surge has been fun, please (please!) do NOT anticipate this kind of HR power as he continues to climb the org ladder. He may have more power than what initially had been scouted, but this pace is unsustainable. Andrew Pullin is holding a .333 average and has 14 hits in his last 10 games.

Clearwater 4, Florida 0 (suspended)

Surprise! Another Franklyn Kilome start inflicted with bad weather. The Threshers held a 4-0 lead through 3 innings before it was called. The game will resume today. Look for the recap tomorrow.

Lakewood 3, Greensboro 2 (10 innings)

Nick Fanti - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, HBP, 1 GB, 5 FB
Jonathan Hennigan - 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, WP
Ismael Cabrera - 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, WP
Daniel Brito - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Raul Rivas - 2 for 5, RBI, K, 2 SB (fielding error)
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 5, 3B, HR, 2 BB
Darick Hall - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 4
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 4, K
Edgar Cabral - 2 for 4 (throwing error)
Luke Williams - 0 for 4, K, SB
David Martinelli - 1 for 4, 3 K

The 20 year old lefty Nick Fanti has made easy work of the South Atlantic League in his first taste of full-season ball. The crafty lefty has a 1.52 ERA and 44 strikeouts to 13 walks in 41.1 innings. Mickey Moniak finally gets that first A-ball HR, which easily cleared the RF fence. Moniak’s season line is up to .286/.335/.403 with 4 SB. Not too shabby for a newly turned 19 year old experiencing full-season baseball for the first time. Last night he also scored the winning run after getting a 2-out triple in the 10th, then coming around to score via a Darick Hall game-winning single.
