Phillies MLR 5/3/17: Alert! We have a Nick Williams walk

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/3/17

MLB: Spring Training-Philadelphia Phillies at Toronto Blue Jays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Ben Lively
REA: TBD
CLR: Cole Irvin
LWD: Ranger Suarez

Scranton/WB 13, Lehigh Valley 0

LHV Pitchers - 15 H, 13 ER, 8 BB, 6 K, 3 HR
Roman Quinn - 0 for 4, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4 (fielding error)
Jorge Alfaro - 0 for 4, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 2, BB, K, HBP
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 4, K
Nick Williams - 1 for 3, 2B, BB
Cam Perkins - 0 for 2 (throwing error)
Jesmuel Valentin - 2 for 3

Cesar Ramos started the game, but lasted just 2 innings. Wander Perez, Adam Morgan and Luis Garcia all contributed to this unmitigated mess. The offense behind them were able to scrounge up just 5 hits. On the brightside, J.P. Crawford had a hit and Nick Williams walked for just the 4th time this season. Rhys Hoskins on-base streak ended at 23 games with the 0-fer and no walk night.

Reading 3, New Hampshire 2

Drew Anderson - 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 6 GB, 5 FB
Yacksel Rios - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Jesen Therrien - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, R, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, HR, 3 RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, 2 K
Chace Numata - 1 for 3, CS
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, K

Drew Anderson improved to 2-0 with a 6.97 ERA on the season. After giving up 7 earned runs in 3 innings in his 2017 debut, he has steadily improved each start. Kyle Martin was able to provide him with a 3-run HR in the 1st inning, his 5th HR of the season. Sadly, Martin is still only hitting .169 in 65 at-bats. That Carlos Tocci kid keeps on hitting and has a .390 average in his last 10 games.

Clearwater 4, Jupiter 3 (11 innings)

Franklyn Kilome - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 K, 2 HR, 3 GB, 5 FB
Austin Davis - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K
Luke Leftwich - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB
Jeff Singer - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K
Mark Laird - 0 for 4, BB
Zach Coppola - 1 for 5, CS
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 5, K
Damek Tomscha - 3 for 5
Jose Pujols - 0 for 5, 3 K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB (fielding error)
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB
Austin Bossart - 2 for 3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3, RBI

For those paying attention, that is now 3 of Franklyn Kilome’s 5 starts this season in which he has not allowed a walk. For reference, he had 50 of those in 114.2 IP last season. Kilome was in line for the win, but Leftwich blew the save in the top of the 9th to force extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Jan Hernandez drew a lead-off walk, went to 2nd on a wild pitch and then was singled home by Drew Stankiewicz for the walk-off win. Austin Bossart hit a 2-run blast in the 4th, his 1st HR of the season. With 3 more strikeouts yesterday, Jose Pujols now has 46 in 92 at-bats.

Lakewood 10, Charleston 6

JoJo Romero - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 5 GB, 4 FB
Maurcio Llovera - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K
Felix Paulino - 1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, WP
Ismael Cabrera - 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R
Daniel Brito - 3 for 5, R, CS (fielding error)
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2 2B
Darick Hall - 2 for 4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Luke Williams - 0 for 4
Cord Sandberg - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, K (outfield assist, 2B)
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB
Carlos Duran - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jose Antequera - 1 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI, picked off

JoJo Romero wasn’t particularly sharp (in my limited viewing while working yesterday), but didn’t need to be with a 6-run lead in the 1st inning. The offense was led by a 3-hit day from Daniel Brito (.333 AVG), two doubles from Mickey Moniak (6th and 7th of the season) and 2-run HR’s from Cord Sandberg (2) and Darick Hall (1).
