Phillies MLR 6/12 - 6/13/17: Is Alfaro waking from his slumber; Hoskins’ slump continues

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 6/12-6/13

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Philadelphia Phillies Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Mark Appel
REA: Miguel Nunez
CLR: GM1 Alberto Tirado, GM2 Jacob Waguespack
LWD: Bailey Falter

Lehigh Valley 9, Buffalo 7 (June 13)

Mark Leiter - 3 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, BB, 7 K
Jesen Therrien - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Cam Perkins - 2 for 5, R, 2 2B, RBI
Jorge Alfaro - 3 for 5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, R, BB
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 5, 2B
Nick Williams - 1 for 5, R, K

Mark Leiter ensured a challenge for IronPigs hitters last night, giving the Bisons a hearty 6-1 lead to close out the 1st inning. However, this offense is a lot of fun and took the lead after the 5th inning. The 6 shutout innings from the bullpen didn’t hurt things either. Jorge Alfaro homers for the first time since April 25th, his 4th HR of the season. It was also his first multi-hit game since May 31st. J.P. Crawford curiously sits out last night even after a day off on Monday. And if you are really into this sort of thing, Brock Stassi (1) and Hector Gomez (6 & 7) went yard in the game.

Reading 4, Bowie 2 (June 13)

Mario Sanchez - 6.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 K, 8 GB, 6 FB
Austin Davis - 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Alexis Rivero - 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 5, CS
Scott Kingery - 0 for 5
Andrew Pullin - 4 for 5, 2 R, HR, K, SB
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 4, 2B
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, R, K
Angelo Mora - 0 for 3, BB
Chace Numata - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4, K

Mario Sanchez improves to 4-1 and has looked rather impressive his last two starts (12.2 IP, 9 H, 0 R, BB, 6 K). Andrew Pullin (13) and Kyle Martin (12) went deep, with the latter’s 2-run HR giving the Fightins a 3-0 lead. Another funny thing about Martin is he is batting a rather dismal .188 and that 17 of his 36 hits this year have been for extra bases. Pullin’s stolen base was his first of the season.

Clearwater 1, Lakeland 0 (June 13, but actually June 12th’s game because it was suspended due to rain and resumed yesterday...but then called early again last night after 5 innings because of more rain/storms)

Cole Irvin - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Blake Quinn - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K, HBP
Herlis Rodriguez - 1 for 2
Mark Laird - 0 for 3, K
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 2, 2B, RBI, BB
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 2
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 2
Drew Stankiewicz - 1 for 2
Jose Pujols - 1 for 2, K
Austin Bossart - 0 for 2
Emmanuel Marrero - 0 for 1, R, BB

The Threshers lone run came via a Damek Tomscha double in the 3rd to score Emmanuel Marrero. I’m sure this was a very unpleasant game to play for both teams involved...both nights. Baseball Betsy’s twitter feed has some pictures and highlights.

Hagerstown 3, Lakewood 2 (June 12)
Lakewood 3, Hagerstown 0 (June 13)

Ranger Suarez - 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 10 GB, 1 FB
Adonis Medina - 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
Raul Rivas - 2 for 8, R, RBI
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, CS
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 4, K
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 7, 2B, RBI, 3 K (passed ball)
Darick Hall - 2 for 7, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 6, K
Luke Williams - 0 for 6
David Martinelli - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 K
Carlos Duran - 4 for 6, 3B, RBI, CS
Enmanuel Garcia - 1 for 3, R, 3B, K

Ranger Saurez fell to 4-2 despite the 1.95 ERA and 73/21 K:BB ratio. Adonis Medina dominates for his 3rd double-digit strikeout game of the season (11 starts). His 12 strikeouts last night beat his previous career-high of 10 which he had on two other occasions this season. Darick Hall the only one digging the longball, hitting his 9th HR in the game on Monday.
