Today’s Probables:
LHV: Jake Thompson
REA: Cole Irvin
CLR: Edgar Garcia
LWD: GM1 Mauricio Llovera, GM2 Sixto Sanchez
WIL: Kyle Young
Lehigh Valley 4, Gwinnett 1
Zach Eflin - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HBP, 6 GB, 7 FB
Scott Kingery - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, SB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 5
Rhys Hoskins - 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4, RBI, BB, K
Herlis Rodriguez - 2 for 4, R, K
Zach Eflin continues to rehab and bide his time until the likely departure of Jeremy Hellickson this month. For what it’s worth, he’s performed rather well since coming back from the DL on June 29th. Eflin threw 66 of his 102 pitches for strikes. The game was a 1-1 tie heading into the top of the 9th when the IronPigs plated 4 runs. Scott Kingery stole his 7th base for LHV and 26th total across two levels this season.
New Hampshire 6, Reading 3
Ranfi Casimiro - 4.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, HR, 2 WP, 6 GB, 2 FB
Alexis Rivero - 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, HR
Alberto Tirado - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, HBP
Zach Coppola - 1 for 4, BB
Angelo Mora - 2 for 4, 2 R, 3B, BB, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 4, RBI, BB
Mitch Walding - 0 for 5, RBI
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 3, BB
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, HR, K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, 2 2B
Ranfi Casimiro should not be starting a minor league game because...he is not good. Carlos Tocci remains a little underappreciated treasure on Reading, improving his season line to .310/.371/.410. We could be seeing the emergence of a Ben Revere-esque profile (though with much better outfield defense and arm strength). Kyle Martin mashed his 17th HR. Nearly 44% of his hit this season (while batting .185) have been for extra bases.
Dunedin 3, Clearwater 0
Jacob Wagespack - 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR, 1 GB, 3 FB
Mark Laird - 1 for 4, 2 K
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3, BB, K
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 3, 2B, BB, 2 K
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 4, K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 2, BB, 2 K
Zach Green - 2 for 4, K
Carlos Duran - 0 for 4, 2 K
Austin Bossart - 1 for 3 (throwing error and passed ball)
Jose Antequera - 0 for 3
Jacob Wagespack takes his 4th loss of the season as he racked up 81 pitches (52 strikes) in his 4 innings of work. He hasn’t exceeded 89 pitches since becoming a starter in late May. Clearwater likely sports the most boring offense of all the minor league affiliates, save for our man Cornelius Randolph. In his last 47 games (159 ABs) he is slashing .314/.424/.478 with 5 HR and 6 SB.
Rome 4, Lakewood 0
Bailey Falter - 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, WP, 10 GB, 1 FB
Daniel Brito - 0 for 4, 2 K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 3, BB, K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 3, BB, K, CS
Darick Hall - 2 for 3, 2B, BB, K
Henri Lartigue - 0 for 4, 2 K
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 4, K (throwing error)
David Martinelli - 0 for 4, 2 K
Luke Williams - 1 for 3, BB, SB
Jesus Alastre - 2 for 2, BB
Nothing Bailey Falter could do about this one, earning his 6th loss of the season despite a modest 3.35 ERA. When the first four in the lineup combine for just 2 hits, things are less likely to shake out your way. Mickey Moniak is starting to feel that long season grind, hitting .216 in his last 10 games.
Williamsport 11, State College 1
Andrew Brown - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Nick Maton - 4 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Jake Scheiner - 2 for 6, R, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI
Adam Haseley - 1 for 5, RBI, K, HBP
Greg Pickett - 0 for 5, RBI, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 4, R, BB, 3 K
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Josh Stephen - 2 for 5, 3 R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 2, 3 R, 2 BB, HBP, SB
Austin Listi - 3 for 5, R, RBI, K
Easily Andrew Brown’s best performance of the season, picking up his 2nd win. The 19 year old has a nice 23:5 K/BB in 25 innings this season. The offense behind him combined for 14 hits and 4 walks. The Crosscutters tacked on 7 of their 11 runs in the last two innings of the game.
GCL Braves 3, GCL Phillies 2
Francisco Morales - 4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 5 GB, 0 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 1 for 4, R (outfield assist, 3B)
Jake Holmes - 0 for 4
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 2, BB (throwing error)
Quincy Nieporte - 3 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Kevin Markham - 0 for 3, CS
Edwin Rodriguez - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Gunnar Buhner - 1 for 3, BB, K
Jesus Henriquez - 0 for 4
