Today’s Probables:
LHV: Brandon Leibrandt
REA: Tommy Bergjans
LWD: Nick Fanti
WIL: Kyle Young
Lehigh Valley 3, Rochester 1
Jose Tavares - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Edubray Ramos - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R
Yacksel Rios - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Scott Kingery - 0 for 4, 2 K
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Rhys Hoskins - 0 for 3, RBI, K (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, BB, K
Jorge Alfaro - 2 for 4, RBI
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, HR
Jose Tavares makes his AAA debut after some roster shuffling yesterday afternoon that saw Drew Anderson promoted to the big leagues and Jacob Waguespack moving up to AA (more on him later). Rather unsurprisingly, Tavares was actually pretty good...as he has been all season. In 19 starts this year, he’s only given up more than 3 runs TWICE. Before you get too excited, the stuff isn’t incredible and as Matt noted in his midseason rankings yesterday it based more on deception than anything else. Though he’s struggled since being promoted from Reading, Andrew Pullin launched his 3rd HR with LHV and 17th overall this season.
Harrisburg 8, Reading 7
Jacob Waguespack - 4 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K, HR, 4 GB, 2 FB
Alberto Tirado - 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, 2 WP
Jeff Singer - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, HBP
Victor Arano - 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, BB, 4 K
Zach Coppola - 1 for 5, R, 2 K
Carlos Tocci - 2 for 3, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
Jiandido Tromp - 1 for 4, 2B, BB
Kyle Martin - 0 for 5, 3 K
Angelo Mora - 2 for 5, R, 3B, K (throwing error)
Deivi Grullon - 2 for 3, 2 R, 2B, BB (throwing error)
Malquin Canelo - 3 for 4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, K
Waguespack makes his unsuspecting AA debut and actually left the game with a 5-4 lead. Reading would take a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th, leaving two of their more trusted relievers to close out the game. Harrisburg would get one run off Jeff Singer to bring it within one in the top of the 8th. A costly Angelo Mora error in the top of the 9th brought in the tying and eventual winning runs. Malquin Canelo hit his 4th HR of the season in the game.
Fort Myers 6, Clearwater 4
Seranthony Dominguez - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Seth McGarry - 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 4, HR
Wilson Garcia - 1 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB
Zach Green - 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, K
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 4, K (two throwing errors)
Seranthony Dominguez with a fine start yesterday and his longest since coming back from the DL in early July. The Threshers were feeling the longball last night with Randolph (11), Garcia (10) and Green (3) all clearing the fences. Recently acquired Seth McGarry (the Joaquin Benoit trade), took the loss last night in his Phillies org debut.
Lakewood 11, Greensboro 2
Alejandro Requena - 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K, 7 GB, 3 FB (throwing error)
Daniel Brito - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Raul Rivas - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 5, R, RBI
Darick Hall - 1 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Austin Listi - 4 for 5, 4 R, 2B, 2 HR
Gregori Rivero - 3 for 5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI
David Martinelli - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K (outfield assist, home)
Luke Williams - 2 for 5, R, SB
Jesus Alastre - 0 for 4, R, RBI, K
Another trade acquisition makes his organizational debut in Alejandro Requena (the Pat Neshak trade). He got his 9th win of the season and lowered his season ERA to 2.78. The Lakewood lineup exploded last night, with the exception of Mickey Moniak, sadly. In his second game with Lakewood (after starting in Williamsport), Austin Listi hit two homeruns last night, giving him 5 this season across two levels. Darick Hall (20) and Gregori Rivero (1) also went deep. The former now comfortably leads the South Atlantic League in that category. Luke Williams stole his 21st base as well last night.
Williamsport 3, West Virginia 2
Andrew Brown - 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K, HR, 13 GB, 3 FB
Nick Maton - 0 for 4, K
Jake Scheiner - 0 for 4
Adam Haseley - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Greg Pickett - 1 for 3, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 3, R, RBI, K
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 3, HR, 2 RBI (fielding error)
Josh Stephen - 0 for 3, K
Luis Encarnacion - 2 for 3
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 3, 2 K
Andrew Brown gets the no-decision in an otherwise modest showing. Cole Stobbe hit a 2-run HR (his 7th) in the 7th inning to give the Crosscutters a 3-2 lead. This was part of a 3-run inning that also included a RBI single from Jhailyn Ortiz. Adam Haseley appears to have that motor running again as he now has three consecutive multi-hit games.
GCL Phillies 10, GCL Blue Jays 2
Manuel Silva - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, HR, HBP, 12 GB, 0 FB
Kevin Markham - 0 for 5, R
Jake Holmes - 3 for 3, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB, SB
Jonathan Guzman - 1 for 4, R, BB
Quincy Nieporte - 1 for 4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, BB (pickoff error)
Ben Pelletier - 2 for 5, R, 2B
Brayan Gonzalez - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Danny Mayer - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Kipp Moore - 1 for 3, K
Jesus Henriquez - 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Manuel Silva improves to 4-0 all the while holding a 3.60 ERA. Meanwhile, Jake Holmes is now a contender for sexiest game-line for the season with yesterday’s performance. His two homeruns last night were the first of his professional career. Holmes was an 11th round pick in this year’s draft. Quincy Nieporte hit his 4th in the game, a grandslam in the 8th inning.
