Today’s Probables:

LHV: Henderson Alvarez
REA: Elneiry Garcia
CLR: Seranthony Dominguez
LWD: GM1 Luis Carrasco, GM2 TBD
WIL: Will Stewart

Syracuse 4, Lehigh Valley 1

Jake Thompson - 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, WP, 5 GB, 5 FB
Scott Kingery - 1 for 4, 2B, K
J.P. Crawford - 1 for 3, HR, BB, K
Carlos Tocci - 0 for 4
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, 2 K
Andrew Pullin - 2 for 3, BB, SB

Things certainly could have gone worse for Jake Thompson last night, but he still came away with a quality start. However, it was his 15th loss of the season. J.P. Crawford was responsible for the lone run, his 14th HR of the year. The hit broke a 3-game hit-less streak.

New Hampshire 8, Reading 4

Tyler Viza - 4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Zach Coppola - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, CS (fielding error)
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, BB, K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 3 K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, HR, K
Zach Green - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 3, BB, K (throwing and fielding errors)

Tyler Viza takes his 10th loss of the season, while Jeff Singer and Tommy Bergjan give up 3 earned runs in 3 innings of relief. Kyle Martin hit his 22nd HR of the season. Of Martin’s 82 hits this season (.192 batting avg.), 38 of them have been for extra bases. Malquin Canelo has been enjoying a nice hot streak at the plate recently, batting .371 in his last 10 games.

Charlotte 8, Clearwater 2 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Clearwater 3, Charlotte 2 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 8/28 ppd)

Ranger Suarez - 2.1 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 K, WP, 3 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
JoJo Romero - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2 WP, 4 GB, 1 FB
Jose Gomez - 2 for 7, R, K
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 6, HR, 2 RBI, K
Darick Hall - 3 for 6, 2B, 2 HR, 3 RBI
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 2, BB, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Grenny Cumana - 1 for 3
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 1, 2 BB

Darick Hall gets named MVP of the South Atlantic League, gets promoted to Clearwater and then promptly hits a HR in each game of a doubleheader. Whatever you may think of Hall as a prospect, that is pretty darn cool. Other highlights include Cornelius Randolph’s 13th HR of the season and JoJo Romero’s 4th win for the Threshers.

Lakewood, West Virginia (ppd due to rain)

Williamsport 8, Auburn 2

Spencer Howard - 4.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 10 K, 3 GB, 1 FB
Jake Scheiner - 4 for 5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI
Josh Stephen - 1 for 5, R, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 3 for 4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI

Yahir Gurrola - 2 for 4, RBI, K
Malvin Matos - 1 for 4
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 4, R
Brian Mims - 2 for 4, 2 R
Jesus Azuaje - 1 for 4, K

Holy cow, Spencer Howard! Howard blew threw his previous career-high of 7 strikeouts in a game and reached his highest pitch count of the season (87 pitches, 55 strikes). The 2017 2nd round pick has 40 strikeouts (good!) to 18 walks (bad!) in 28.1 innings. Meanwhile, Jhailyn Ortiz returns from day-to-day injury that saw him miss a few games to blast his 8th HR of the season. This brings his season line to .302/.401/.560 in 159 at-bats. He is 18 years old.
