Game Thread 8/5: Phillies at Rockies

Maybe tonight will be better? Maybe?

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Colorado Rockies Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Last night was kind of a bummer, right? It really was. A bad moment from Luis Garcia and some seriously futile offense led to the Phillies’ fourth straight defeat. Will they make it five? Let’s find out who we’ve got defending the honor of the Phillies franchise tonight. (Okay, not really. That’s a little intense. A franchise with more than 10,000 losses doesn’t need defending from anything.)

Today's Lineups

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES COLORADO ROCKIES
Cesar Hernandez - 2B Charlie Blackmon - CF
Freddy Galvis - SS DJ LeMahieu - 2B
Daniel Nava - RF Nolan Arenado - 3B
Nick Williams - LF Gerardo Parra - LF
Tommy Joseph - 1B Mark Reynolds - 1B
Odubel Herrera - CF Carlos Gonzalez - RF
Maikel Franco - 3B Jonathan Lucroy - C
Jorge Alfaro - C Pat Valaika - SS
Nick Pivetta - RHP Jon Gray - RHP

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! WE HAVE A JORGE ALFARO SIGHTING! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! WE HAVE A JORGE ALFARO SIGHTING! MAN YOUR BATTLE STATIONS!

It’s really super exciting that Alfaro is starting tonight. Not just because he’s shiny and new and exciting, but because it means that Cameron Rupp isn’t starting. Again: he seems like a super nice, fun, adorable guy. He’s got big arms, which I love, and a nice smile and a fun sense of humor. But what I need from him is to be better behind the plate. That’s not to say that Alfaro is going to be better right away, but at least it’s different, right? And right now, at this point in the season, knowing that Knapp is going to be out for a bit while his hand gets un-bruised, new and/or different is all I want.
