Good morning! Let’s get to it, shall we?
Phillies avoid sweep in Atlanta
Thank the Lord. It was a little dicey there for a minute, but the Phillies won on Sunday 2-0 to prevent the Braves from sweeping them. After their virtuoso showing against the Dodgers, that would have been a huge bummer.
Nick Pivetta tossed a gem, going six innings and allowing five hits and no runs. The bullpen picked it up from there, with Edubray Ramos, Adam Morgan, and Hector Neris tossing scoreless innings.
Over on the offensive side, there wasn’t much going on, but it was enough. The runs came from a Maikel Franco home run in the fifth inning, and a Aaron Altherr double in the eighth. Again, it wasn’t much, but it was definitely enough for that game.
GREASED LIGHTNING!!!
I’m not sure how I didn’t see this coming, but I didn’t and that made it all even more delightful. Phillies rookies, which included any player who had less than a year of service time coming into this season, had to dress up as one of the T-Birds from the musical “Grease.” But that’s not all.
Nothing quite like a little choreographed dance to officially welcome you to The Show.

THAT IS THE AWESOMEST THING EVER. They’re doing a routine! It’s adorable!
I would embed the whole video here, but it came out TWO DAYS AGO AND IT’S STILL NOT AVAILABLE FOR EMBED. MLBAM, YOU GUYS ARE DICKS. Honestly, this is so stupid. All this does is drive us toward tweets instead of just linking to their video. Just for that I’m NOT going to link to the whole video, but once it’s available for embed I’ll put it in the morning links. Eff them.
Around the Phight
- New Felske Files, everyone! It’s the best Phillies podcast you’ll find. And on this episode, John Stolnis talks to Meghan Montemurro about whether the Phillies are poised to make any big moves this winter.
- Ethan Witte wrote about the Phillies bullpen, and why it might be time to look outside the org for reinforcements.
Song of the day
Today’s song comes courtesy of what I was listening to non-stop three years ago, which was Jenny Lewis’ “The Voyager,” one of my favorite albums of all time. This song is called “Just One of the Guys.”
I wasn’t sure if anything Jenny Lewis did on her own would ever eclipse Rilo Kiley, but this did it. I love this song. I love every song on this album, actually. And I love her suit in this video.
