Cameron Rupp, the backup catcher who recently signed a one-year, arbitration-avoiding contract with the Phillies, is not from Philadelphia. Or Pennsylvania. He is from Texas, and he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan.
I’ll pause so you can vomit with the proper intensity.
As you may have noticed by now, the Cowboys are not in the playoffs. They had laughably bad season, which brought me and many other Eagles fans an unbelievable amount of pleasure. With the Eagles in the playoffs, it’s hard to imagine that Rupp has been enjoying football lately.
But you wouldn’t know it from his Twitter feed. Before last week’s game, Rupp tweeted this incredible thing.
Can’t believe I put this on, but good luck @LG_Blount, @ZERTZ_86 and the @Eagles pic.twitter.com/n0shKHuIF9

THE COWBOYS FAN IS WEARING AN EAGLES JERSEY. IN TEXAS I THINK THAT’S A CRIME PUNISHABLE BY JAIL TIME. CAMERON I HOPE YOU KNOW YOU’RE TAKING YOUR LIFE INTO YOUR OWN HANDS!!!
But it was nice! It was so nice. Rupp’s status on the Phillies is still fluid, since he’s one of three (3) catchers the Phillies are currently holding on to. But as annoyed as I can get with his hitting, I have always, always loved his personality. He’s a tremendous clubhouse guy and game for whatever PR/marketing stuff the Phillies throw at him. He plays with puppies with his awesome, beefy arms, and I can’t help but love him. And that tweet only added to how much I love him.
Fast forward to NFC Championship Game Sunday, and what do I see on my Twitter feed? Another Rupp tweet!!!
I don’t have my dog mask but this guy will have to do!! Good luck to the @Eagles tonight! I’m not sure what luck this is but I got my @LG_Blount jersey on! @NBCSPhilly pic.twitter.com/uqv90180Wg

WITH HIS DOGGO! THAT IS ADORABLE!!
Cameron, if I can call you by your first name, thank you for doing this. You put an Eagles jersey on your Cowboys-loving body, and that is a MAJOR thing. If the situation was reversed, I literally cannot imagine wearing a Cowboys jersey. I’m not being hyperbolic. I can’t imagine a situation, outside of a life-or-death or hostage situation, in which I’d voluntarily put on a Cowboys jersey. Especially if they were in the playoffs and the Eagles weren’t.
You’re getting into the spirit of not just Eagles fans, but all Philadelphia sports fans. And to top it all off, you’re wearing the same jersey as you did last week, which is a superstition I strongly believe in. Yeah, it may be the only Eagles jersey you own, but you’re still wearing it.
If they lose today, I hope you know that you’ll have to burn that jersey and post the video on Twitter. That’s just the way it goes. But still — thank you!
Please use the comments below as your open thread for the Eagles game — if you can manage to type from the fetal position in front of the television.
