You wanted ‘em, you got ‘em.
According to media reports, the Phillies will be bringing back their powder blue uniforms and use them as alternate jerseys on select Thursday home games this season.
The Phils wore their powder blues on the road from 1973 to 1988, and frankly, never should have stopped. They are, simply put, gorgeous uniforms. And this year, it appears they will replace the alternate red jerseys that had been the team’s signature unis for Thursday home day games the last two seasons.
The Phillies wore their powder blue jerseys during a Turn-Back-The-Clock series in Milwaukee with the Brewers last summer. Philly.com says the team will release more information about the powder blues at a later date.
The Phils also announced they will hold ceremonies for the 10th anniversary of the 2008 world championship team on August 5, and will hold another ceremony on June 10 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 1993 NL championship squad.
As for the powder blues, I know what jersey I’ll be wearing on those days.
