Today’s probable starters:
LHV: Thomas Eshelman
REA: JoJo Romero
CLR: Connor Seabold
LWD: Ramon Rosso
Norfolk 6, Lehigh Valley 0
Zach Eflin: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 3 FB
Nick Rickles: IP, 0 R
Roman Quinn: 0 for 5
Dylan Cozens: 0 for 2, 2 BB, K, SB
Mitch Walding: 0 for 4, 3 K
Andrew Pullin: 0 for 4
Jesmuel Valentin: 0 for 1
Not much life in the Pigs’ bats last night as they were shut out in Allentown. Zach Eflin was decent but got nothing from his offense. We even had a position player pitch for the Pigs as catcher Nick Rickles made his professional pitching debut with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Dylan Cozens, despite striking out as much as he did last season (hint: it’s a lot), is walking more in addition to reportedly making better contact.
Harrisburg 4, Reading 3
Harold Arauz: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 6 K, HBP, 5 FB, 1 FB (throwing error)
Zach Coppola: 2 for 5, R, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Malquin Canelo: 1 for 4, R, 2B, BB, 2 K
Damek Tomscha: 1 for 3, R, BB, K
Kyle Martin: 0 for 2, 2 RBI, K
Jan Hernandez: 3 for 4, 2B, RBI, SB
Cornelius Randolph: 0 for 4, 2 K, SB
Deivi Grullon: 0 for 4
Jiandido Tromp: 0 for 0, BB
The Fightins dropped the second game of this four-game set in Harrisburg. Down 3-2 in the seventh inning, the Senators pushed across the tying run on an RBI single. They then won the ballgame on a walk-off sac fly. Cornelius Randolph found himself struggling at the plate once again, reaching base only by way of a fielder’s choice. Edgar Garcia now has appeared five times out of the bullpen for Reading and has not allowed a run.
Clearwater 9, Charlotte 4
Bailey Falter: 5.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R (1 ER), 5 K, 10 GB, 1 FB
Tommy Hunter: 1.1 IP, H, BB, K, 2 GB
Mickey Moniak: 0 for 5, 3 K
Arquimedes Gamboa: 0 for 3, 2 R, 2 BB
Adam Haseley: 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B
Darick Hall: 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Austin Listi: 1 for 3, 2 R, RBI, BB, K
Henri Lartigue: 3 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K
Jose Pujols: 1 for 4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB, 2 K (two fielding errors)
Raul Rivas: 1 for 5, RBI, K
Jose Gomez: 1 for 4, 2 K
Bailey Falter got knocked around a bit but did a nice job of keeping the ball on the ground for much of the game. Mickey Moniak continues his high-A struggles as his average drops to a paltry .156. Seems as though he just has not made the needed adjustments to contend with Florida State League pitching. Arquimedes Gamboa has also started slow as he is now hitting .195. Adam Haseley had a nice night at the plate with two hits including a double.
Lakewood 5, Greensboro 4
David Parkinson: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 1 FB
Simon Muzziotti: 2 for 5, 2 K
Nick Maton: 1 for 5, R, K
Jake Scheiner: 0 for 5, 2 K
Jhailyn Ortiz: 0 for 5, 4 K
Colby Fitch: 2 for 5, 3 R, 3B, RBI
Daniel Brito: 0 for 3, RBI, K
Gregori Rivero: 1 for 4, R, HR, 2 RBI
Dalton Guthrie: 1 for 4, RBI, K
Josh Stephen: 1 for 4, K, SB
Jhailyn Ortiz earned himself the Golden Sombrero last night with another horrid showing at the plate. Make it 12 strikeouts in his previous four games. Simon Muzziotti singled to extend his hit streak to eight games. He has been pretty impressive out of the gates in Lakewood. David Parkinson turned in his second straight scoreless outing.
