MLB: Spring Training-Philadelphia Phillies at Detroit Tigers Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s probable starters:

REA: Jacob Waguespack
CLR: Adonis Medina
LWD: Will Stewart

Norfolk 7, Lehigh Valley 4

Thomas Eshelman: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 6 K, HR, 7 GB, 3 FB (fielding error)
Roman Quinn: 2 for 5, K (outfield assist, 2B)
Dylan Cozens: 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Mitch Walding: 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Jesmuel Valentin: 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Andrew Pullin: 0 for 2, K

The IronPigs dropped the final game of the set to lose the series at home to Norfolk. Thomas Eshelman turned in a pretty uninspiring start, and the offense, outside Roman Quinn, Jesmuel Valentin and Collin Cowgill, was poor. They get Thursday off before heading out on a six-game road trip in Durham then Norfolk.

Reading 5, Harrisburg 4

JoJo Romero: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R (4 ER), 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HR, WP, 6 GB, 2 FB
Seranthony Dominguez: 3 IP, 0 R, 6 K, 2 GB
Zach Coppola: 1 for 5, R, SB (outfield assist, 2B)
Malquin Canelo: 1 for 5, 3 K
Zach Green: 1 for 5, R, 2 K
Kyle Martin: 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K
Jiandido Tromp: 2 for 4, R, 3B, BB, 2 K, SB
Jan Hernandez: 1 for 3, 2 RBI, BB, SB
Cornelius Randolph: 0 for 1, K

Another rough night for JoJo Romero as he surrendered two home runs and eight hits overall. He has struggled to begin his double-A career. On the other hand, Seranthony Dominguez was dominant last night in relief of Romero, throwing three hitless innings. He tossed 35 pitches and 29 for strikes. The offense mustered up only two extra-base hits but were able to get the job done.

Charlotte 18, Clearwater 6

Connor Seabold: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 4 K, WP, 5 GB, 4 FB (pickoff, 1B)
Mickey Moniak: 1 for 5, K
Arquimedes Gamboa: 2 for 4, R, BB, 3B
Adam Haseley: 1 for 5, R, 2 RBI
Darick Hall: 0 for 5, K
Austin Listi: 0 for 3, R, RBI, BB
Henri Lartigue: 1 for 4, R, 2B
Raul Rivas: 2 for 4, R, RBI, CS
Kevin Markham: 0 for 2, R, 2 BB (throwing error)
Luke Williams: 1 for 3, RBI, BB

For being the starter for the team that allowed 18 runs, Connor Seabold’s line wasn’t too bad. In fact, this game was tied 4-4 after the Threshers’ half of the seventh inning. Charlotte then went on to score 14 runs in the seventh and eight innings. The offense did well, but 14 runs in two innings is tough to keep pace with.

Greensboro 5, Lakewood 4

Ramon Rosso: 6 IP, 2 H, R (ER), BB, 7 K, HR, 6 GB, 1 FB
Dalton Guthrie: 2 for 4, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB
Nick Maton: 1 for 5, K
Jhailyn Ortiz: 3 for 5, R, HR, 3 RBI, K
Colby Fitch: 0 for 4, K
Quincy Nieporte: 1 for 5
Jake Scheiner: 0 for 4, BB, K
Rodolfo Duran: 2 for 4, 2B (passed ball)
Yahir Gurrola: 2 for 4, R, K
Josh Stephen: 1 for 4, 2 K

This game went to extras so the fantastic new rule of putting a runner on second to start an inning was utilized. Greensboro plated that runner in the top half of the tenth to win it. Ramon Rosso has impressed with a fairly basic arsenal. His fastball sits in the low 90s but he commands it well, making for a really good pitch in the low minors. Jhailyn Ortiz finally tallied his first home run in full season ball and added two base knocks.
