Today’s Probables:
CLR: TBD
LWD: Spencer Howard
Lehigh Valley 9, Norfolk 8 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Norfolk 5, Lehigh Valley 0 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 4/24 ppd)
Tom Eshelman - 3.1 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 GB, 3 FB
Jacob Waguespack - 4 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 4 GB, 2 FB
Roman Quinn - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 7, 2 R, 2B, 3 K
Mitch Walding - 4 for 6, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB, K
Jesmuel Valentin - 2 for 7, 3B, 2 RBI, K
Andrew Pullin - 0 for 4, K
Every IronPigs starter not named Enyel De Los Santos has been pretty bad, huh? Even recent call-up Jacob Waguespack can’t fight the mediocrity. Mitch Walding has been the driving force behind the LHV offense in the early season. He is slashing .306/.419/.548 with 3 HR with a 21:11 K/BB ratio. I’m sure we’ll hear the WIP beckoning of Walding to replace Franco in the coming months if this trend continues. Not noted on here, but Brandon Leibrandt is doing quite well as the lefty out of the bullpen. He has a 0.00 ERA in 11 IP with 10 strikeouts and no walks. The big club could use a lefty that is good.
Reading 9, Akron 7
Franklyn Kilome - 3 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HBP, 3 GB, 2 FB
Zach Coppola - 1 for 5, 2 K, CS
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 3, R, BB, HBP (fielding error)
Damek Tomscha - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B, HR
Jiandido Tromp - 2 for 5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Zach Green - 1 for 3, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB, K, HBP
Jan Hernandez - 3 for 4, 2 R, RBI (throwing error)
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 4, RBI, CS (outfield assist, 2B)
We got a glimpse of “bad Kilome” last night as he struggled on the mound. His ERA jumped from 3.68 to 5.60 following this start, which goes to show you how small of sample sizes we are dealing with this early in the season. Nevertheless, the offense pounded away to combine for 15 hits, including Tomscha’s 3rd HR of the season.
Clearwater 9, Fort Myers 5
Adonis Medina - 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, HR, 8 GB, 3 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 5, 2 K (fielding error)
Adam Haseley - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, K
Austin Listi - 1 for 4, R, K
Darick Hall - 1 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K (fielding error)
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 4, 2 R, K
Wilson Garcia - 3 for 4, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI
Jose Pujols - 1 for 3, R, RBI, BB, K
Raul Rivas - 2 for 4, R, RBI (throwing error)
Jose Gomez - 1 for 4, R
A big win for the struggling Threshers, who are 7-13 following the victory. Adonis Medina bounces back from two dreadful starts (combined 4.1 IP, 10 H, 11 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) with a good, if unimpressive outing to get his 2nd win of the season. Adam Haseley getting into the swing of things with his 5th and 6th doubles. He has a .280/.299/.400 line in 75 at-bats this season. Haseley has been much better over the last couple weeks, batting .333 in his last 10 games.
Lakewood 5, Hagerstown 0 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Lakewood 3, Hagerstown 2 (GM2 of DH, 8 innings, makeup of 4/24 ppd)
Ramon Rosso - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 WP, HBP, 8 GB, 3 FB (pickoff error)
Will Stewart - 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 K, 2 HR, WP, 8 GB, 1 FB
Daniel Brito - 2 for 7, R, 2B, RBI, K
Dalton Guthrie - 1 for 4, BB, K, HBP
Nick Maton - 0 for 6, RBI, K
Quincy Nieporte - 0 for 3 (fielding error)
Colby Fitch - 2 for 5, 2 R, HR, K
Gregori Rivero - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2B, BB
Kevin Markham - 4 for 6, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI
Yahir Gurrola - 1 for 6, R, 2 K
Josh Stephen - 1 for 5, 2 RBI, BB
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 3
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 3, K
Love a good DH sweep! Ramon Rosso and Will Stewart are dominating in the early season with 1.25 and 2.05 ERA’s, respectively. Both, but especially Rosso, might not be long for the South Atlantic League if they keep this up. Kevin Markham mashes his 1st of the season and Colby Fitch adds his 2nd. Markham has done quite well since being demoted, but he likely should be as a 24 year old in A-ball.
