Today’s Probables:
LHV: Zach Eflin
REA: Harold Arauz
CLR: Adonis Medina
LWD: Will Stewart
Erie 7, Reading 1
Ranger Suarez - 3 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, K, HR, HBP, 4 GB, 2 FB
Zach Coppola - 1 for 4, RBI, K (throwing error)
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 4, K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, 2 K
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K (fielding error)
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4, 2 K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4, K
Welcome to 2018, Ranger. After a stellar 2017 with Lakewood/Clearwater (2.27 ERA with 128 K’s in 122.2 IP), he gets hit hard in his AA debut. He gave up a four-run 2nd inning and three-run 4th before being pulled. The offense wasn’t all that spectacular outside of former first round draft pick Cornelius Randolph. Randolph could put up some ridiculous numbers in Reading this season. The bullpen (Edgar Garcia, Luke Leftwich and Seth McGarry) combined for 6 innings of 2-hit shutout ball.
Dunedin 5, Clearwater 4
Connor Seabold - 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, HR, WP, 8 GB, 2 FB
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 3, R, BB, K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, 2 K
Adam Haseley - 1 for 4, HR, 3 RBI
Darick Hall - 0 for 4, 2 K
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 4, K
Jose Gomez - 0 for 2, BB, K
Jose Pujols - 1 for 2, 2 R, HR, BB
2017 3rd round pick, Connor Seabold, makes his full-season debut. In limited innings last season in Williamsport he had 13 strikeouts in 10 innings (1 ER). More notably in the game however, 2017 1st round pick Adam Haseley gets his first HR of the season. He had 3 homers in 215 at-bats last season. Yes, you can stop rubbing your eyes because that is in fact Jose Pujols’ actual line from last night. If Pujols can’t break out this season, I’m afraid his time in the organization could come to an end.
Kannapolis 4, Lakewood 3
Ramon Russo - 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR, 5 GB, 1 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 0 for 4, RBI, BB, K
Daniel Brito - 0 for 3, 2 K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 4, 3 K (outfield assist, 2B)
Malvin Matos - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 4, K
Jake Scheiner - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K (two throwing errors)
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 3, BB, K
Nick Maton - 2 for 4, HR, K
Russo was serviceable in his first start of the year, though like last year (25 BB in 75 IP), the walks are a concern. The game was tied entering the bottom of the 9th before Luis Ramirez gave up the zero-out walk-off double to drop the opener. Budding prospect Jhailyn Ortiz with a not great look in his full-season debut. Nick Maton (2017 7th rounder) hit a solo HR in the 5th inning. Maton had all of just 2 homers all last season for Williamsport.
