Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/17/18

Weekend Probables:

MiLB doesn’t have the slightest on who is pitching this weekend with all the rainouts and recent promotions. Also, its supposed to rain all weekend and I doubt all 12 games are even played.

Scranton/WB 5, Lehigh Valley 4 (11 innings)

Tom Eshelman - 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K, HR, 3 GB, 6 FB
Victor Arano - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 5, 3 K

Tom Eshelman was surprisingly mostly fine in this outing, giving up both of his earned runs in the 5th inning before departing. He threw 58 of his 86 pitches for strikes and didn’t walk a batter for the first time since his 1st start of the season. Eshelman’s two earned runs were also his lowest total in a start this season. Baby steps people. Both Mitch Walding and Andrew Pullin are out of the lineup after crashing into each other on a catch in Wednesday’s game. The bullpen blew a 4-2 lead, giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to force extra innings. Jacob Waguespack came on in relief and gave up the walk-off run in the bottom of the 11th. If you are a big Joey Meneses fan, he hit is 5th HR of the season in the game.

Palm Beach 8, Clearwater 3

Mauricio Llovera - 3.2 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 3 K, HR, HBP, 4 GB, 1 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, R
Adam Haseley - 2 for 4, RBI, K (outfield assist, 2B)
Austin Listi - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Darick Hall - 1 for 4, HR, K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 4
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 4, 2 K
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 3, BB, K
Jose Gomez - 1 for 4, K
Jose Antequera - 2 for 3, R

Mauricio Llovera with by far his worst outing of the season. His ERA jumped from 2.30 to 3.48 after the start. Darick Hall hit his organizational leading 11th HR in the game, a solo shot in the 4th. Mickey Moniak’s 6-game hitting streak came to an end. However, Adam Haseley has himself a 7-game hitting streak and is batting .280 over his last 28 games.

Lakewood 4, Greensboro 1

Will Stewart - 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 7 K, 10 GB, 1 FB
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Daniel Brito - 0 for 5, 2 K
Kevin Markham - 1 for 4, 2B, K, CS
Quincy Nieporte - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Gregori Rivero - 2 for 4, R, 3B, RBI
Nick Maton - 2 for 4, R, RBI (throwing error)
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 4, K (passed ball)
Josh Stephen - 1 for 4, R, K
Dalton Guthrie - 2 for 4, RBI, CS (throwing error)

Will Stewart, Ramon Rosso and Spencer Howard are firmly in “too good for the South Atlantic League” territory and are begging for a promotion. The problem is there is no room in the Clearwater rotation and there is no one exactly lighting it up or deserving of a promotion outside of maybe Bailey Falter. Anyway, Will Stewart holds a 1.26 ERA with 38 strikeouts to 6 walks in 43 innings. He was in line for his 1st loss of the season before the BlueClaws struck for a 4-run rally in the top of the 9th to take the lead. Lakewood is now 21-17 and 4 games out of first place in the Northern Division.
