Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/21/18

Jhailyn Ortiz Baseball Betsy

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Enyel De Los Santos
REA: TBD
CLR: GM1 Adonis Medina, GM2 TBD
LWD: Ramon Rosso

Lehigh Valley 6, Rochester 2

Drew Anderson - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, WP, 5 GB, 2 FB
Jake Thompson - 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, WP, HBP
Yacksel Rios - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, 2 R, HR, 2 BB, K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K

Drew Anderson picks up his first win in his second start of the season. The command issues that he had last season seemed to flare up last night, but all was well otherwise. Mitch Walding returns to the lineup officially after serving as only a pinch-hitter the last couple games. He mashed his 7th HR of the season. Fellow teammates also had dingers, they were Collin Cowgill (3), Trevor Plouffe (1) and Nick Rickles (3). Dylan Cozens has been quite bad recently. In May he is slashing .197/.239/.394 with 30 strikeouts to 4 walks in 66 at-bats.

Erie 4, Reading 3

Elniery Garcia - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP, 7 GB, 4 FB
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, R, CS
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 2, R, RBI, 2 BB, K, SB
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 3, RBI, K
Zach Green - 0 for 4, K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 4
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 3, BB, K
Jiandido Tromp - 0 for 3, K

Reading loses this one in the bottom of the 9th after Tyler Viza gave up a lead-off HR for the walk-off loss. Elniery Garcia wasn’t very good or bad. It’s been a weird season for him. The Fightin’s had no extra-base hits in the game, but were 2 for 4 with RISP and only left 3 on-base. In things you probably couldn’t have predicted before the season, Jan Hernandez leads the team in batting average (.324) and OBP (.361).

Clearwater, St. Lucie (ppd due to rain)

Lakewood 2, Hagerstown 0

David Parkinson - 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 9 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Jake Scheiner - 2 for 3, R, BB, HBP
Nick Maton - 2 for 5, HR
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 4, K
Gregori Rivero - 0 for 3, RBI
Colby Fitch - 0 for 3, K, HBP
Quincy Nieporte - 0 for 4, K
Kevin Markham - 2 for 3, BB, K
Dalton Guthrie - 0 for 1, HBP
Daniel Brito - 0 for 1, BB
Josh Stephen - 0 for 4, 2 K

David Parkinson improves to 4-1 and lowers his ERA to 1.85. Fun fact is that is only the 3rd lowest ERA among BlueClaw starters. Ramon Rosso leads the way with 0.93 and Will Stewart is just behind him at 1.26. Crazy. Nick Maton blasted his 3rd HR of the season and is hitting .283/.336/.442 in 120 AB. Jhailyn Ortiz made his return from the DL in which he was resting a sore shoulder. Let’s hope with this injury behind him he can work his way back into the top hitting prospect conversation.
