Phillies MLR 5/29/18: J.P. Crawford makes a rehab start

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/29/18

crawford

Today’s Probables:

LHV: Cole Irvin
REA: JoJo Romero
CLR: Connor Seabold (12:00pm start)
LWD: Will Stewart (11:05am start on MiLB.tv)

Charlotte 5, Lehigh Valley 1

Ben Lively - 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, 1 GB, 1 FB
Jake Thompson - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, 3 K
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (outfield assist, 1B)

Ben Lively is going to have to do better than this if he is to hold off Enyel De Los Santos for that coveted “next call-up” spot. He couldn’t out-duel a rehabbing Carlos Rodon, who stifled the IronPigs offense. Rodon and the bullpen struck out LHV 14 times in the game.

Trenton 5, Reading 4

Harold Arauz - 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 5, 2 K, CS
Kyle Martin - 1 for 3, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 4, R, RBI
Zach Green - 1 for 4, 2B, 2 K
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 3, BB, K
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 3, RBI, K (missed catch error)
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, 3 K (outfield assist, home)
Cord Sandberg - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K
Emmanuel Marrero - 2 for 4, R, 2 K

Reading loses a heart-breaker after coming back to score 4 runs in the top of the 8th while down 3-0. Luke Leftwich and Tyler Gilbert combined to give up both the tying and walk-off runs in the bottom of the 9th. Cornelius Randolph’s struggles are ever apparent, having more strikeouts (40) than hits (29) in the early season. It may have been a little too aggressive for his AA placement to start the year.

Fort Myers 8, Clearwater 1

Bailey Falter - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 3
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 1
Adam Haseley - 1 for 3, R, 3B, BB
Austin Listi - 0 for 4, RBI, K
Darick Hall - 0 for 3, HBP
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 4, 2 2B
Henri Lartigue - 0 for 4, 2 K (passed ball)
Jose Pujols - 1 for 4, 2B, 3 K
Jose Antequera - 1 for 2
Jose Gomez - 0 for 2
Raul Rivas - 1 for 3, K

JP Crawford rehab start! With Pedro Florimon hitting the DL because of a broken foot, they need the shortstop to make a quick trip through the minors so he can re-join the team. Bailey Falter took his first loss of the season in not coincidentally his worst start as well. He had only given up 3 earned runs in a game once this season and never more than that before last night. The offense struggled, going 0 for 7 with RISP and leaving 7 on-base. The good news is Adam Haseley mashed his 2nd triple of the season, walked and didn’t strikeout in the game. Mickey Moniak followed suit and hit his 8th and 9th doubles of the season (and also didn’t strikeout). Moniak is riding a 5-game hitting streak and is 7 for 21 in that span with 4 extra-base hits.

Lakewood 5, Greensboro 1

Ramon Rosso - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 9 GB, 1 FB
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 4, K
Nick Maton - 0 for 4, R, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 2 for 4, R, K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 4, 3 K
Quincy Nieporte - 3 for 4, HR, K
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, K
Rodolfo Duran - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K
Dalton Guthrie - 1 for 3, R, 2B, K
Kevin Markham - 0 for 3

Despite the impressive 1.44 ERA following this game, it was just Ramon Rosso’s 2nd win of the season in 9 starts. Rosso must continue to bide his time until a spot opens up in Clearwater. Both Rodolfo Duran and Quincy Nieporte hit their 4th homers of the season. Jhailyn Ortiz now has 6 multi-hit game in his last 8 games played. I think it’s safe to say “he’s back.”
