Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/3/18

Philadelphia Phillies v Tampa Bay Rays Photo by Joe Robbins/Getty Images

Weekend Probables:

LHV: Enyel De Los Santos, Tom Eshelman, Jacob Waguespack,
REA: JoJo Romero, Franklyn Kilome, TBD
CLR: Mauricio Llovera, Sixto Sanchez, Bailey Falter
LWD: Damon Jones, Connor Brogdon, David Parkinson

Lehigh Valley 5, Rochester 2

Brandon Leibrandt - 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 3 GB, 5 FB
Jake Thompson - 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K, 3 WP, HBP, 2 BB, 1 FB
Roman Quinn - 2 for 5, HR, K, SB (fielding error)
Dylan Cozens - 2 for 4
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, R, BB
Andrew Pullin - 1 for 4, K (outfield assist, 2B)

Make that 18 shutout innings for Brandon Leibrandt this year in AAA. He’s been their multi-inning reliever/spot starter guy for the beginning of the season and has seemingly thrived. He has 11 strikeouts to just 2 walks issued as well. Jake Thompson was kind enough to deprive Leibrandt of the win. Roman Quinn continues to swing a hot bat and hits his 2nd homer of the season (to go along with his 11th stolen base). Quinn is slashing .309/.364/.457 in 81 at-bats, all the while staying healthy. The last part was really the only key left in his quest to be a major league player (hint: he’s ready).

Clearwater 5, Lakeland 3

McKenzie Mills - 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 WP, HBP, 4 GB, 4 FB (fielding error)
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, R, BB, 3 K, SB
Adam Haseley - 0 for 5, 3 K
Austin Listi - 3 for 4, R, RBI, K
Darick Hall - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 4, R, RBI, 3 K
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 4, R
Jose Pujols - 2 for 4, R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, K
Raul Rivas - 1 for 3, BB, K
Luke Williams - 0 for 3, BB, K

A pedestrian start for McKenzie Mills who had a nice run of 3 solid starts. His season ERA sits at 3.12 through 26 innings. The Thresher offense staged a late come-back down 3-1 in the top of the 8th, rattling off 4 runs to take the lead. The rally started with a two-out single from Austin Listi. Speaking of Listi, his season line is up to .381/.435/.607 with 3 HR. He is way too good for the Florida State League it’s safe to say.

Rome 8, Lakewood 5

Spencer Howard - 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, WP, 3 GB, 3 FB
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 4, RBI, BB, 2 K
Daniel Brito - 2 for 4, RBI, BB
Danny Mayer - 0 for 4, R, BB, 2 K
Quincy Nieporte - 2 for 5, K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 5, RBI, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 2 for 5, R, 2B, K
Kevin Markham - 1 for 4, 2B
Dalton Guthrie - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI (fielding error)
Yahir Gurrola - 2 for 4, 2 R, HR, K

I was able to catch most of Spencer Howard’s start and the line above is pretty indicative of how he looked. Fastball didn’t have great movement and was leaving everything in the zone. With how great Howard has looked otherwise this season, hopefully this is just a blip on the radar. The offense actually out-hit Rome 13-12 in the game and were an impressive 6 for 13 with RISP. Luis Carrasco came on in relief for Howard and gave up 3 runs of his own. Yahir Gurrola’s HR was his first of the season.
