The 19-year-old has made eight starts for high-A Clearwater this season, striking out 45 and walking 11 over 46.2 innings.
The DL stint is the first for Sanchez, and it being the elbow definitely raises a red flag. Obviously, the Phillies do not want to take any chances.
Sanchez’s most recent start came on June 3 in Clearwater. He pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing two hits and two walks on 73 pitches. It was arguably his most impressive outing of the season.
There is a silver lining, however, as the MRI results have led the Phillies to believe the injury is not too serious.
Sixto Sanchez, who is the No. 23 prospect in baseball, is on the DL with right elbow inflammation. Had a MRI this week. Phillies don't believe it is serious. He will be evaluated again in a couple weeks.
