Phillies top prospect Sixto Sanchez placed on DL

The 19-year-old right-hander will be re-evaluated in a couple weeks

RHP Sixto Sanchez, the Phillies’ top prospect, has been placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.

The 19-year-old has made eight starts for high-A Clearwater this season, striking out 45 and walking 11 over 46.2 innings.

The DL stint is the first for Sanchez, and it being the elbow definitely raises a red flag. Obviously, the Phillies do not want to take any chances.

Sanchez’s most recent start came on June 3 in Clearwater. He pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing two hits and two walks on 73 pitches. It was arguably his most impressive outing of the season.

There is a silver lining, however, as the MRI results have led the Phillies to believe the injury is not too serious.
