Phillies Minor League Roundup for 7/2/18

Reading glasses half full

Probables for 7/3 - 7/4:

LHV: Tom Eshelman, Ranger Suarez
REA: Franklyn Kilome, TBD
CLR: Anthony Requena, TBD
LWD: Will Stewart, Kyle Young
WIL: Gustavo Armas, Jhordany Mezquita

Syracuse 9, Lehigh Valley 4

Drew Anderson - 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K, 2 HR, 8 GB, 2 FB
Dean Anna - 2 for 3, R, 2B, BB, K
Mitch Walding - 2 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB
Joey Meneses - 1 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Trevor Plouffe - 2 for 3, HR, BB
Danny Espinosa - 2 for 4, K
Damek Tomscha - 1 for 1, 2B, BB

Drew Anderson wasn’t nearly as sharp as he has been in recent weeks, which is unfortunate as it was reported that Gabe Kapler was in the stands to check out the game. Both teams combined for 6 homeruns in the slugfest. Joey Meneses (15) and Trevor Plouffe (10) went deep for Lehigh Valley. Every reliever but Tom Windle, shockingly enough, was hit up for runs in relief of Anderson.

Hartford 6, Reading 5

Connor Seabold - 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 K, 2 HR, WP, 4 GB, 4 FB
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 4, R, 4 K, HBP
Austin Listi - 2 for 4, R, K, HBP
Darick Hall - 0 for 4, K
Zach Green - 1 for 2, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K, HBP
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 3, R, RBI
Deivi Grullon - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4, R, K

After getting scorched for 5 runs in 3 innings in his AA debut last week, Connor Seabold settled down and left the game 5-3 lead. Luke Leftwich gave up a run in the 7th, Edgar Garcia allowed the tying run to cross the plate in the 8th and the usually reliable Jeff Singer gave up the go-ahead run in the 9th. Which is all a shame given the offense put together a nice game. Cornelius Randolph has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season! Zach Green’s line is up to .298/.381/.567 with 15 HR in 252 at-bats. Even more interesting with Green is his home/road splits are pretty even.

Clearwater 7, Lakeland 3

Adonis Medina - 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 9 K, 2 HR, HBP, 6 GB, 2 FB (pickoff error)
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 3, R, 2 BB, K
Luke Williams - 3 for 5, R, RBI, K, SB (fielding error)
Henri Lartigue - 1 for 4, R, RBI, BB, K
Jose Pujols - 0 for 4, BB
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 3, R, 3B
Edgar Cabral - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, K
Kyle Martin - 1 for 4, K
Raul Rivas - 1 for 4, 2 R, K, SB
Jose Gomez - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB

Adonis Medina bounces back from a rough outing last week for a quality start last night. Medina now has a respectable 72:25 K/BB in 68.2 innings this season. I’m not sure what has gotten into Luke Williams in his last 32 games, but he is slashing .357/.405/.583 with 6 HR and 6 SB over than span. He has also seen his playing time not just limited to third base, but also left field, center field and first base. Williams was always considered a bit of a project, so perhaps things are finally coming together. Mickey Moniak hit his 1st triple of the season.

Lakewood 4, Delmarva 3

David Parkinson - 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K, 3 WP, HBP, 6 GB, 5 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 0 for 4, K
Jake Scheiner - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Nick Maton - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 4, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 4, 2 K
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI
Matt Vierling - 2 for 3, R, BB, K, SB
Colby Fitch - 1 for 3, 2B, BB, K
Jose Antequera - 1 for 4, 2 RBI, K

David Parkinson with the rare “off” start. This is only the 2nd time this season which Parkinson had given up 3 earned runs or more in a start. He is now 13 appearances into the season and has a 1.41 ERA. He didn’t get the win last night, but the BlueClaws climbed back and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th for the walk-off victory. Jose Antequera delivered the game-winning 2-out bases-loaded 2-RBI single to win the game. Matt Vierling, our 2018 5th round pick, gets the promotion to Lakewood and has himself a multi-hit game in his debut.

Auburn 5, Williamsport 3 (7 innings, completed early due to rain)

Jack Perkins - 2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 K, 1 GB, 1 FB
James McArthur - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 K, HBP2 GB, 1 FB
Juan Escorcia - 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 BB, 6 K, WP, 1 GB, 0 FB
Jesus Henriquez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 4, RBI
Alec Bohm - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K
Danny Mayer - 2 for 3, 2B
Ben Pelletier - 2 for 3, RBI
Seth Lancaster - 0 for 2, BB, 2 K
Matt Kroon - 1 for 3, R, 2 K
Lenin Rodriguez - 0 for 3
Keudy Bocio - 1 for 3, R

A couple of Williamsport debuts last night for Jack Perkins (2018 11th rounder) and James McArthur (2018 12th rounder). Alec Bohm broke out with his first multi-hit game since June 21st when he was with the GCL Phillies West squad. Juan Escorcia blew the save and took his 2nd loss this season.
